I bought these after going through 3 pairs of Oxtar Matrix boots in the past five years. Was looking for a waterproof, all-weather boot with a lugged sole and arched insole, AND NO BIG VELCRO FLAP. I don't care what anyone says, velcro wears out with heavy, repetitive use and then your calf support and protection is GONE. Plus, one of the zippers broke on my last pair. These have no zippers and just a small velcro patch at the very top, otherwise depending on three adjustable cam-type strap-clamps to cinch the boot down. Very much like ski boot fasteners. Locking them down takes a bit of getting used to, but they are excellent in terms of adjustablility and providing a comfortable yet secure fit. They do not seem to come undone by accident at all, even crossing your legs or tucking under your chair. Pretty solid design, and in the included lit says they can be replaced if necessary.
I wear my boots every day to ride to work, year-round and on tours- so I decided to suck it up and spend some dough to get a sturdier boot- and so far these seem like the real deal. At first I was surprised at the height and stiffness, but within an hour of putting them on for the first time they were feeling good. After 3 weeks, I have a hard time taking them off when I get to work (and switching to my loafers) or when I get home- they are that comfortable. Hopefully they will break in without becoming floppy, but the leather is thicker than average so it should keep shape and provide better than average protection. I usually wear a 10-1/2, the size 10 was a perfect fit so they must run a bit large. Very impressed with this boot so far, think it was a good buy!

warmth/insulated
i do alot of atv riding in the cold....i was wondering if these were a warm boot....just had a cold foot experience after christmas ride...thanks john

Yes, it's a pretty warm boot- very sturdy and thick- but if you are going to be out in the cold for extended periods of time I'd consider either a battery-powered heated insole or socks to go along with it. I've found my pair of Scouts to be much warmer than my old Oxtars, or even my Vasque hiking boots- and I've been riding regularly now, so far, down into the twenties- but only for 20-30 min at a time for my commute to work. Might be fine for longer, but don't know yet! HTH.

Euro size or American size?
I wear Alpinestars for road racing and use a size 44, should I be choosing a 10 or 11 from the sizing chart? I typically wear a size 10.5 shoe.
My experience was that the Alpinestars 10 fit me perfectly where I usually wear a 10.5.
