Icon Elsinore Boots The Icon 1000 Elsinore's five-strap, alloy-buckle chassis, stamped metal heel plate, and internal steel shank combine for a serious dose of moto-x homage. The traditional Goodyear welt construction mates the Icon street-specific sole to the magnificent leather upper. A medial entry zipper, allocated from Paratrooper jump boots, is the only luxury the Elsinore will allow itself. A modern relic from an era when men were iron and tanks were steel. The Elsinore, old-school MX reinterpreted for the urban sprawl. I have been looking for a pair of boots that didn't make me look like I was Valentino Rossi getting ready for his next GP win, nor did I want the plain commuter Wellington (Gumboot) styles that look like I'm a farmer about to go out and tend the cattle.
I discovered the Elsinore and was smitten by their style. Just what I needed.
I have only had them a couple of weeks and yes, they are VERY stiff out of the box (but not uncomfortable). I've only been on a couple of short rides, but they have started breaking in very quickly.
These have a large'ish toe box. My gear lever was always a little high, and I had been planning to lower it, but not now. The large toe box needs some room to get your foot under gear-lever.
I agonised over black v's brown. I knew whichever color I chose, I would change my mind later. I bought the brown, and now think I should have bought black! D'oh!!! Brown looks great, but they are VERY distinct, so if (when) you tuck your jeans in and walk around, people will stare directly at your feet! Maybe black would have been a little more subtle (and also match my jacket). I just figured that the style of these boots suit brown best, so no regrets!
Surprisingly, I felt lots of cool airflow. It can get very warm in Sydney Australia, so that is a good thing for me. Haven't used them in the rain yet, so can't comment on that. Anyway, I have some longer rides planned, so I look forward to breaking in some more. I'll report back here in a few months with an update.
Yes, I recommend this product.
