JCVstarClassic's Reviews

Scorpion EXO-500 Oil Helmet The Scorpion EXO-500 immediately catches the eye with its innovative design, enhanced by a superb sharp ridge on the underside of the shell. Inspired by its older brother, the Scorpion EXO-1000 , the EXO 500 Helmet is based on the GT philosophy and is fitted as standard with the last generation visor of its elder. And as if that were not enough, it integrates the SpeedView built-in retractable sunvisor treated with anti-fog coating on both sides. Two accessories usually reserved for high-end helmets! Comprising 3 caps and a lighter and more durable shell than its predecessor, fitted with a very soft and comfortable inner lining thanks to the new KwikWick2 liner and triple density foam cheek pads, the Scorpion EXO 500 Helmets will drastically change your expectations from a full face helmet of the standard range. Equipped with the revolutionary Airfit technology and a state-of-the-art ventilation system, chances are the new Scorpion will steal the show from the much more expensive helmets among those daily users who want to buy the best helmet for the best price. Features Kwikwick2 Liner - moisture wicking, hypoallergenic, removable, machine washable, soft SpeedView Retractable sunvisor - treated with antifog on both sides Airfit technology - Inflate and deflate the cheek pads to make it fit perfectly- this provides a better fit thus better safety and shock absorption. Speedshift visor system for extremely quick visor changes EverClear no-fog visor Optically-correct aero-tuned shield with state-of-the art fog-free technology and anti-scratch hardened coating. Advanced Polycarbonate Composite Engineered Shell Quiet, aero-tuned design for wind-tunnel tested comfort. EPS-lined chin bar for additional protection. Triple density foam cheek pads 3 Shell Sizes 3 Year Warranty

I've had the helmet for 2 years now, and constantly get compliments on the look and function.
The SpeedView Retractable sunvisor is totally awesome! I ride in New England where I go from shade to full sun, and I can flip the sunvisor up and down in a snap with my clutch hand.
I'm not sure that the Airfit pump ever worked, but it fits fine without it - it wasn't a feature I was looking for anyway.
I does run small compared to HJC - one size up is perfect.
I don't have anything to compare it to, so I don't know on a relative basis, but the air is a little loud coming through the top vents at highway speeds or when I crack the visor in cold weather to keep it from fogging up at byways speeds.
I have a little trouble getting my glasses in over the cheek pads, but ... oh well, it still works. [I did call Scorpion about it and got a helpful, live person!!, but they didn't have any suggestions.]

Ugly:
1) [as the reviews said] The stirrup snaps tend to pop apart when putting on. Haven't come undone when riding yet, though ... which would be distracting.
2) The little piece of velcro BETWEEN the 2 zipper halves confuses me - it just snags the ankle flap and gets in the way. When would you ride without the leg zipper zipped?
3) The ankle flap velcro and snap are so near each other, the ankle flap doesn't feel as secure as it should be. With the good fit around the ankle/calf, I'm thinking that the stirrup straps are going to be coming off soon.
Bad:
1) There is NO way to put them on with boots (only size 8.5). I used my Yamaha rainsuit bootie and it works great, though!
2) The pocket zippers don't work smoothly, and will probably break? (very fine teeth)
Good:
1) So far, only light rain, but bone dry! It feels like it's leaking at the shins, but it's dry - I think it's just the cold[er] temperature of the rainwater.
2) I haven't been a SM adult size since Junior High, but it's a perfect fit (5'8", 180 lbs, 32" waist)!
3) The jacket zipper just happens to fit my Yamaha jacket too!
