I was wearing work boots for a while to ride and they were too clunky. I got a pair of these for everyday riding and they are much more comfortable. They provide good protection, no shoe laces, goes on easy and fits well. They are great for everyday riding when you need to walk around for a while. I'd probably want to wear a higher boot for more aggressive/longer riding since these don't come up very far on your leg.
Overall, they are great for the everyday ride.

Is the Buckle on the SMX-2 Boot metal on metal or metal on plastic?

The buckle is metal on plastic. There is a metal cylinder within a plastic latch that locks onto another tough plastic piece to hold it in place.
