I had to order these because one of the originals broke off due to not locking down properly and while cruising down the road it flew open and snapped-off. There is a certain way you MUST latch the top cover to prevent this. You MUST push-in the outer red latch release button when latching the cover back down or it will NOT actually be locked. It will act as if it is but, believe me, it is not. I got my Givi cans used when I bought a V-Strom that had them. I had no idea of this small, but very important piece of, information. I hope it helps someone before they have a problem like I did. This and the fact that they took a VERY long time to get ( NOT REVZILLA's PROBLEM ) are the only real issues I have with the lids. Mine took 3 months to get.

These are my 1st pair of MX-style boots. I've been riding cruiser bikes for years and just acquired a V-Strom, and I wanted shin protection as well as good grip, since I whacked my shin 3 times with the foot pegs the first day I had the bike. YOWCH!!
I ordered the same size as my normal boots and they fit like a glove!! Seriously... If you have a wide foot, I am a flat-footed 9D, these boots would be tight. These Gaerne boots are very well made and extremely comfortable for me. I am able to ride for hours and then walk around for hours in them without any issues at all. I consider them to be flexible at the ankle and I don't feel like a robot when walking around.
I just took a several hour trip on a dry... 80 degree day. I did not find my feet getting overly warm and, when I took the boots off, hours later, my socks were not soaking wet. These are water proof boots, so I would expect them to be hot anyway.
I ride my V-Strom in all surfaces, like dirt and gravel. The soles of these boots are excellent for getting a no-slip-grip. I am not sure how long the soles will last. All of my other motorcycle riding boots have a different brand of sole, that I pretty much insist upon, but... I choose my battles and I really liked these Adventure boots and took a chance. Hopefully, the soles will last as long as my other boots. I usually put-on 20K miles a year on my bikes in 2 trips. Plus all of my regular riding around. So, I do plenty of walking as well. I will re-cap my review of these boots for longevity of the sole in a few months. I already know I'll be using them to run the snow-blower this winter. HA HA HA
It took me a little practice shifting properly, but that's more my fault than the boots.
I wish they had this boot in Women's sizes so I could get my lady a pair.
So far.... I would highly recommend these boots to anyone who is looking for an Adventure-style riding excursion.

What Jacket to choose

Hi,
I am 50 yrs old 183cms and 205kgs. I am getting back into some basic endure off road riding. i ride a DRZ 400e and BMW R1200 Gs. I have purchased a forcefield body armour shirt .

Now I need a jacket that will be a good outer-layer but also keep you cool as I live in australia so it gets hot and steamy! I was looking at the Klim Traverse jacket. Would this be comfortable , can I wear Leatt Neck brace with this jacket and thirdly do I size this with the Protection shirt on as it is going to add some bulk.

You may recommend another product also as I am not up to date with what's out there now.

Thanks

Shane
Well... I cannot expand on many of your questions but.... I bought mine in 2004. I wear a medium men's in all jackets, Some are a bit loose, but many are just right. This jacket is fine for my type of fit. It keeps the COLD off my body just fine with a gator at the neck. I ride down to 20 degrees-F..... or lower... as long as there is no Ice or Snow in the forecast. With NORMAL sweat-shirt and T-shirt under-layers I am totally good to go. Now... when it is over 70 degrees-F... I open the jacket to let the ventilation work... as designed.... I am totally comfortable. I'm 5'-10'' and 175 LBS. I grew-up in PA. and am used to cool weather so, you may have a different comfort level than I. I hope this helps you. I LOVE this jacket.... if that's any idea. Also... I'm 46 if that's any help.

Gaerne G-Adventure

Does this boot have a removable insole? Thanks.
I don't think it's removable. I haven't really YANKED on it, but it appears to be securely stuck in-place. I don't really want to RIP it out, just in-case they are NOT removable.

Fit of the Gaerne G-Adventure boots

What's the fit like on these boots. I wear a 12 street shoe and am looking at either 12 or 13 in this boot. Also, can you provide some additional details on padding, interior armor, sole flexibility, outer shell construction and the inner liner? Thanks, your web-site is great!
I have flat-feet and wear a size 9D in all my boots. I ordered size 9 in these boots and they are like a 2nd skin. VERY comfortable but.... if I had a wide foot.... probably not so.

They are extremely well made, in my opinion, and provide me enough protection, but you wont see me on TV trying to break my neck doing crazy stuff. I just wanted shin protection mostly and good grip. I got both with these.

I think the soles are very flexible and have walked around for hours in mine w/o issue.

My first thought about the outer shell is it's really nice leather and strong. However, I think it will mark-up rather easily. So, if you're looking for a go-to-town boot... buy some black polish.

I have not wore them in any wet conditions, so I cannot comment on their water-proof qualities or inner liner on that issue. Although, I like how the liner neatly lays down when you latch-down the buckles. At 80 degrees, my feet did not get too hot and my socks, hours later, were not soaked.
