Background: I researched online and found reviews that recommended the SMH10 as the best available. I tried another brand (starts with "I") and was more impressed with the Sena.
It's mounted in my KBC Vulcan helmet. I have tried with and without earplugs.
Installation is SIMPLE and looks great! The SMH10 is ridiculously easy to use, even with gloves on. Competitors' models with small buttons are much more difficult and require more concentration.
I have had great luck with this unit. It's held its charge for over a week of commuting to work and back while listening to music and podcasts.
I love this thing for these reasons:
1. It's loud. With earplugs, it's OK - sometimes I can't hear my spoken podcasts, but they are recorded at a low level. Without earplugs, it's WAY too loud, especially on phone calls.
2. It's clear. My wife says she can hear some wind noise, but my voice is still very clear, even at 55MPH, talking normally.
3. It's upgradable. Firmware upgrades via USB on the computer are easy and a great feature. (No Mac support tho - boo!)
4. It's expandable. I am about to order the earbud option. I figure since I normally ride with earplugs, the earbuds might as well do double duty and give me some music.
5. It's well-designed. it looks great on my helmet, it installed easily and is simple to use, even with gloves on. I haven't tried it with winter gloves yet, but i'm confident it will work easily.
Downsides:
1. I'd like to be able to boost the volume a little more so I can hear some of my podcasts better. Not a design flaw, but it would be great if we had a little more volume to work with.
2. It's not fair to put this here, but... If the bass response were better, this would be a perfect product. However, with the laws of physics being what they are, that's mostly impossible with a 1.5-inch speaker! I believe the earbud option will fix this.
That's it! Best unit I've tried. I'm tremendously happy with it, and will be ordering another unit and a couple more mounting brackets so I can install these on all 4 of my family's helmets.

Yes, I recommend this product.

can i pair my iphone AND the sr10 to my smh10?

this would allow me to use the iphone's A2DP profile, giving me voice control and stereo music. or can i only pair the sr10 to the smh10, then be forced to plug the iphone into the sr10?
thanks!

How do these work along with ear plugs?

I always ride with ear plugs. I've always been reluctant to use wireless units for that reason. Do these work well through a set of ear plugs.
they are adequately loud with ear plugs. however, bass response is lacking. clarity and volume when on a phone call may be a challenge, but that's more dependent on the call carrier.

are speakers clear/loud enough for wind noisy modular helmets?

this question is in relation to the one about the microphone/phone/earbuds compatibility.
yes. sound quality will be a little tinny compared to full-range speakers or headphones, but they are totally adequate.
