I was expecting something good from Shoei, it turned out to be brilliant. The sizing guide on Revzilla sorted out any doubts, this model is not available in Australia so I had no reference point except for my old hat. A couple of helpful emails from Revzilla were greatly appreciated. This helmet fits me perfectly and the venting is the best I have ever experienced by far! To put it into perspective, with the vents open I can feel a breeze across my head...first time ever, regardless of the brand and looking forward to the benefit in our upcoming summer. The visor seal is perfect with the new spring loaded gizmo and vision is excellent. Surprisingly I found the helmet louder than I expected at high speed but it was strange, the noise was engine and exhaust, not too much wind roar. Quite satisfying on a VFR with loudish pipes, ear plugs on stand-by for any long rides though. Not thrilled about the really long neck strap (wish we could have snap buckles brought back) but that is one minor negative on a long list of very positive points. Well worth a look and although this hat is not road legal where I live, I now have the highest Snell rating available and I have not lined the pockets of our local retail thieves. Brilliant crash hat, money very well spent.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Nothing much to say apart from the visor fits the helmet perfectly, makes an amazing seal with the Qwest spring loaded closure and is optically perfect. If it lasts as long as my previous Shoei visors (different visor type for the new helmet) then I will be very happy.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Helmet - Ausralian Standard sticker

Hi, I wanted to know if the shipped helmet will have an approved Australian Standard stickers since I will be wearing here in Australia?
Part of the checkout process reminds you that as an international buyer, the DOT sticker does not meet Australian helmet standards. There is no way Revzilla could add AS stickers either, they are fitted by local importers and that is the reason we pay absurd prices for helmets (not to mention other stuff our local retail thieves rip us off for). My new Shoei from Revzilla arrived with a DOT and Snell 2010 sticker but sadly the DOT sticker 'fell off', I was devastated ;-)

My old Shoei was DOT only as well for the same reason, I was done last Xmas for speeding and the traffic cop couldn't have cared less about my hat. He was a reasonable guy and I knew I had done wrong...I reckon he was miffed he never got my actual speed around the corner as he could not line up his laser until he had cleared it and I was slowing for red light. 84 in a 60 that should be 100, better than the original 140+

Another pointer for me came up ages ago when APEC was in Sydney. We had 12 police bikes outside our building (escorts for everybody) and 7 of the 12 riders had DOT only helmets. On that note however, if you are caught riding with a DOT only helmet (and you are not a NSW police rider) you will receive the fine and points equivalent of not wearing a helmet at all! My Snell 2010 exceeds anything our mental midget legislators have ever looked at, makes sense to me (and the government fine revenues).

Does the Qwest come with a face shield, or will I need to order one?

Wow, so long and nobody has answered! Must be a difficult question ;-)

The Qwest ships with a standard clear visor, options for tinted and mirrored visors are alongside if you want to add them. Make sure you select the correct visor model if you are ordering extras. Great helmet too, well worth the money.

who has a better touring full face helmet arai or shoei? I've been considering one or the other.

Depends what would fit on your head for a long time and still feel good. I tried Arai but none of their products fit my head and allow comfort, Shoei seems to have a shell shape that works for me so I buy them. By comparison, nothing in the Nolan or AGV range fits me at all but the BMW 5 apparently will. Sadly, my budget does not fit that very expensive option (curse my giant brain). I have heard good and bad about all brands but sticking your head into the crash hat has to be the clincher, if it's not comfy after 5 minutes then try and extrapolate that feeling to 5 hours.

Is shoei going to make a hi-viz helmet in the quest model?

So far they have nothing in the range but would it not be easy enough to grab a solid colour and slap on some hi-viz tape? Maybe even a custom colour job if it something out of the ordinary. By hi-viz, I take it you mean flouro green or yellow...that correct? Something like the hideous Schuberth C3 hi-vis? (Sorry, I would post a photo but the picture is not mine).

Shoei CW-1 shields

Chrome mirror vs dark smoke, which is darker/better sun protection during the day and which is better during low light/early evening conditions.

thanks.
I've been a big fan of chrome for a long time. Gets a bit toasty in Sydney during summer and I used to have dark smoke on the old BMW hats I had but went to chrome on the Shoei hats. I could not put it down to the visor but it felt better inside, both makes were white (yep, I'm boring) but the Shoei felt better...might be down to the venting but the front of my face felt better in direct sun. I have a chrome visor on my new Qwest and it stays on day or night. However, this is mostly city or suburban riding so street lighting is always on. No doubt if I was out somewhere rural I would be swapping it for a clear visor at night, the light reduction is not severe but I woud prefer the full picture out in the sticks.
