I have been running Tourances on my 1200GS since the OEM tires wore out and I am very happy with them. They wear extremely well while still providing enough grip for me to run with the fast guys (on the street, so not at a true race pace) if I am in the mood. I ride the backroads of New England mostly, and they work very well on the rough and bumpy broken surfaces that are so often encountered, as well as being fine on dirt roads and such. These are NOT hardcore offroad tires, but a good 90/10 tire. On the rare occasion where I have pushed either end beyond its limit, sliding and recovery of grip are gradual and smooth, not abrupt; very rider friendly.
About my ratings, I rode liter sportbikes for many years and used some very sticky tires on them, so since Tourances are not as sticky as those, I gave them a 4. Also, there are tires like the ME880 that get better mileage, so again, a 4 in that category.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Can these units be charged off of bike power while underway? I intend to play music, so that will eat the battery.

I don't mind a wire during charging; I may go for several days camping and have no access to electricity during the evening, so will not be able to plug it into the wall, as the manual seems to indicate is the only charging method.
