I headed south east (yesterday) to scrub off the mold release ... 300+ miles and a variety of pavement types later here's some “impressions” ... On broken or irregular pavement the slow speed turn in (20-40mph) feels solid, less "touchy" than the worn out 501 I took off. At higher speeds (50mph and up) the turn in seemed as quick and accurate as either the Bridgestone 020 or the TW501 front (when it wasn't down to the wear bars). Quick right to left to right changes at higher speeds really caught my attention. Seems that the front end (during these "maneuvers") is more stable especially if you are making the transition under acceleration rather than trailing throttle. What else . . . Braking seems as good as the 501 or the 020 even over cobbly surfaces or leaned over or downhill. On new smooth pavement the “feel” at or near the limits is really excellent so far. I didn't push too hard but did manage some small slides using the available Botts dots + throttle + lean angle to make the front end “push” a little. (No real sphincter clinchers anyway ) … basically non-events. Lets loose smooth and comes back quickly.
I also noticed that the Avon seems to come up to acceptable operating temps pretty quickly. I haven't had a chance to test this tire in the rain....Lots of drizzle yesterday but no real “rain”. Our local forecast says we'll be getting plenty in the next week so I'll be the one out trying to figure out how well they do or don't perform in “moist” conditions. The large, wide water dispersion grooves look promising. Time will tell.
