Seth G.'s Reviews

Arai CT-Z Helmet Arai introduced the CT-Z to their open-face helmet line after digesting years of real world rider feedback from their XC-RAM helmet. The XC-RAM was an incredibly successful helmet that provided exceptional value and convenience to riders. The Arai CT-Z uses the XC-RAM as a foundation and adds another level of convenience. Arais main objective for the CT-Z helmet is to provide riders with an open-face helmet that improved their experience riding into the sun without limiting ventilation, aerodynamics, or face shield functionality. Arai doesnt change for the sake of change. They change to improve. The CT-Z is a nice improvement to Arai's helmet line. Features: Removable and replaceable interior liners Low profile cheekpad design Upper vent system borrowed from the Arai Corsair V helmet Adjustable peak helps reduce sun glare and is designed to provide minimal lift at highway speeds Thinner face shield pods increase aerodynamics Brow vents channel air direct to the temples Snell M2015

I've been riding for 30+ years & have several helmets on the shelf. Was looking for a good open-face helmet for summer use. I find that it doesn't matter what the spec's or reviews say, I gotta use the gear to know if its right for me. My Schuberth C3 (highest rating, etc.) is stifling in the heat and uncomfortably loud with the chin vent open. It just doesn't give any real air-flow for me. I also have a cheap Chinese open face that I've been wearing for a few years (bought it here for about $100) but wanted something better quality & safer. This is all that & then some! Incredibly comfortable, fit is perfect and features all work. Good airflow from the brow vents, shield locks shut & doesn't rattle. The peak doesn't catch the wind & does help with (some limited) sun shielding. This is like a summer-weight version of the XD-3 DS helmet. And believe it or not, I find this MUCH quieter (no loud airstream shooting up at my nose & eyes) as compared to the C3 (shield closed & chin vent open). This is my first Arai and I'm very impressed with the quality of the helmet. I'm not into flash, but the finish is really nice, too (I got the white which is a beautiful pearly white & oh so purty!) Your fit may differ, but it feels like they used my noggin' for the mold. Pricy? Yup. But with Arai it seems you get what you pay for. Not so with the C3 (H-U-G-E waste of $$!)

I was looking for something more comfortable than my leathers or textile mesh pants for hot summer weather, and these fit the bill nicely. I'm able to wear them all day, as they look like "regular" pants. Lots of Kevlar throughout, but there is NO padding. I guess they'll offer slide resistance but not impact protection. Overall I like them. My only complaint is that the cargo pockets have buttons rather than velcro. Not the most convenient, but its not a deal breaker. I wear a 36x32 in street pants. Probably should have ordered 36x34, because when I'm on the bike (upright position on a GS) the cuff rides up over the top of my low (hiking) boots. Works fine with my riding boots.

I purchased this suit from RevZilla in Oct, 2008. I had returned to riding after a 15-year hiatus (kids, etc.) and I was looking for Safety & Comfort (in that order.) Got the Hi-Viz suit in XL. I'm 6'1" and at that time I was 230 lbs. Fit was excellent; color crazy bright (but that's what I was looking for...) I was able to don the suit over my work clothes (suit & tie most days) so that was a big plus. The inner liner is too warm for my taste, even when the mercury dips to 20F. Any lower than that & I leave the bike at home (okay, so I'm a wimp...) In hot weather the vents do a decent job when I'm moving, but stopped at a light or stuck in traffic & you feel like a KFC bird stuck in the roaster.
Its now been 2 1/2 years alternating between this suit & some Rev'It 2-pc jacket/pant combos. I've also lost about 25 lbs and I'm happy to report that the adjustability of the suit is fantastic. I cinched the waist belt and it still fits fine. The arm adjusters work very well to hold the armor in place. But after all this time the velcro is still VERY stiff. A fellow at the local dealership suggested washing the suit in Nikwax to help soften it, so that's on my to-do list. But come to think of it I haven't ever washed it...at all! Hasn't gotten smelly and the road grime has been easy to wipe off when it was thick enough to need attention.
As far as being waterproof, this suit works very well. I've ridden in some really big downpours and I stayed bone-dry inside. Just make sure that the zippers & velcro are all closed properly. This is not as easy as it sounds, as there's a LOT of openings to attend to. My only gripe after 2 1/2 years is that its a bear to put on. The velcro sticks to everything (gloves, boots, etc.) Taking it off is not nearly as difficult, as the velcro & zippers are much easier to operate while the suit is on my body (vs. trying to open it up while holding it.)
All in all I think it was money well spent. I'm considering the mesh version as a summer oversuit, but I don't think my street clothes would stay clean enough. Also- the price has dropped by about $50 since I bought mine, so this really is a great bargain- less than half the cost of the Aerostitch, and a third the price of the Rev'It one-piece suit.
The fit is good for an oversuit, but its quite boxy. My Rev'It gear is more of a tailored fit, which I like in the two-piece appraoch. But for cold & wet riding I haven't found a better combination of features & price.
Safe Riding!

First let's talk fit: Rev'It is in their own world when it comes to sizing. You just have to try it on until you get it right. Settled on a XXXL and the fit is perfect. Had my eye on the Olympia AST (in size XL) because I like the Hi Viz (lime green) color. But once I tried on the Cayenne I knew it was the one for me. Added a Carhartt traffic safety vest (about $40 at the discount work clothing store) so now I feel comfy & can be seen. Added the SAS-TEC back protector to finish the deal. My only complaint is that for what I paid I'd expect that the "real" back protector would have been included. The one that's included is a joke. Overall I'm really happy with the jacket. Pricy but I think its well worth it.
Pros Rugged, Fashionable, Comfortable

Was looking for a non-gauntlet pair of gloves & the salesman showed me these. Fit is perfect (forget the Rev'It "size"; just go with what actually fits!) Very good finger mobility- easy to work my GPS buttons & zippers with them on. (Can't do that with my Farenheits) Oveall a good value, too.
Pros Comfortable, Great Value

SAS-TEC Back Protector Cutting edge SAS-TEC material is intelligent armor constructed from visco elastic soft foam smart molecules. It has earned the highest CE rating available (CE level 2), during an impact, the armor freezes and hardens, absorbing the shock and distributing its force over a large area to reduce the risk of fractures. The protector is not destroyed by impact, but reverts back to its original state and maintains its capability to protect from multiple impacts. SAS-TEC Armor has a soft and pliable exterior (as opposed to rigid KNOX armor) which offers a great deal of comfort and mobility. This protector is anatomically designed and fitted to provide superior spine and back protection as well as the base of the neck /between the shoulder blades. Added this to the Cayenne Pro jacket. Fits perfectly into the sleeve/pocket in the rear. Very comfy; hardly even notice it.
My only complaint is that with the jacket running close to $600 I'd expect to get all the SAS-TEC for that price. The "pad" it replaces feels like flimsy foam rubber...
Pros Comfortable
