Being that I'm a relatively new rider, protection means a great deal to me. I was in the market for a good armored short to wear will riding. I needed it to fit and feel great without sacrificing its protection ability and air flow. Since I live in Texas and summers get really hot here, breathability was a huge concern for me. I should mention that I bought the Dainese Pro Shorts first and wasn't really impressed so I returned them to have them replaced with the Alpinestars Bionic Freeride Shorts. To me, they feel way more comfortable and safe. The padding on the sides is substantially bigger. I feel I made a great decision. Gives me a better sense of being protected in the event of falling on my side. Also, I would like to note that the foam padding on the tailbone does NOT bother me while riding in the upright position. They do run a little small. I use a 38" in jeans and the XXL fit me perfectly. Again, I highly recommend these to anyone wanted the little extra protection.
