These things are really really warm. Great for naked bikes. Drying them is a bit of a pain, they take forever to dry as they absorb a ton of water. I'm on a long tour on my 2005 R1200RT and had enough room for a heated jacket but not pants so I brought these. Amazing how warm they make my BMW Tourguard suit. My feet didn't start to get cold until I was riding in 38 F rain in Sweden at 90 MPH.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Overall these controllers are good. It's nice to have them mounted to my bike so that I don't have to fumble with the dongle controller anymore. However installation does require a bit of fabrication. In installed it on my 2005 R1200RT with a relay so I wouldn't have to worry about them draining the battery if I forgot them on. The drivers controller I put in the spot where the optional radio buttons would have been; that cable barely is long enough. I mounted the passenger controller first and pushed the knob about half-way on to check clearance. Then I tried to remove the knob and it ripped the shaft all the way out of the controller! Don't try and remove the knobs after you install them. I was able to push the shaft back in and the controller works still, but the detents (clicks you feel) are gone. I didn't have time to send for a replacement before I shipped my bike to Europe, but the controller is still working. If you have intermittent problems, check for corrosion on the fuse. Since I did some wiring I'm not sure if the fuse holder I'm using is the Gerbings one, but wiggling a fuse beats driving cold while you worry about if your controllers are broken (like I did).
Yes, I recommend this product.

This is my first motorsports camera so I had a little bit of a learning curve. I tried mounting it on my helmet, and with the suction cup on a few different places on my 2005 R1200RT before I finally put it on the Wunderlich Garmin Zumo 660 GPS Mount behind the windshield. It's good to have it somewhere you can reach down and turn it on and off. I have to put the windshield about half way up to fit the camera in, and I scratched the windshield when I forgot to take the camera out and put it down, but now the scratch is a good reference point for where to adjust the windshield. I've shot in ContourHD (640), full 1280, snapshot mode. I don't know why but the picture quality looks much better in 1280 mode, it's kind of grainy in ContourHD mode. The sound is better with a piece of electrical tape over the hole, but is useless in every mounting location I've tried. Most all you get is wind noise at any respectable speed. The GPS feature is great, shows you location and speed when watching videos in Contour player. I haven't tried to figure out if I can make a normal video (MPEG, etc.) with the map in it. The GPS accuracy was off significantly near Berchtesgaden Germany, but was fine in southern Scandanavia, Germany, and the Czech Republic. The bluetooth viewfinder is incredibly useful. The one time I didn't double check with it I had the camera rotation angle adjusted for my helmet still and shot some of the most amazing footage of my trip at a 130 degree angle, making it completely unviewable! Lesson learned, always double check with the viewfinder before recording! Battery life is ok. I generally leave for a 6 to 8 hour drive, turning the camera on and off when the road gets interesting. The battery is almost always dead or close to it when I get to my destination.
Yes, I recommend this product.

It does make riding long distances more comfortable, I've ridden up to 14 hours with it. I'm glad I bought this, but I wish I bought a S/M. I have a 34 inch waist and I'm usually a Medium, but that one felt really small. As the belt breaks in a bit it stretches so that would have been right size (when riding without the removable kidney liner). The little rubber velcro supports that go on over the front belt have little rubber nubs that started messing up the inside of my jacket, so I cut them off. I've ridden 12,000 miles with it now and it's starting to show some wear and the velcro is starting to separate from one of the rubber supports, but it's still kicking.

MachineartMoto X-Head for BMW R1200/R1200R X-Head Cylinder Guards provide wide coverage in a tough, 5mm thick stylish shape that protects the vulnerable magnesium valve covers of R1200 hexhead engines. When a bike is dropped, even at a standstill, a cylinder first hits the ground at its front corner, then rolls onto its face before settling back down on the lower edge. The wide coverage X-Head design protects both the valve and spark plug covers. Openings in the face are designed-in to provide air flow over the valve cover, while the molded-in texture at the bottom will help hide minor abrasion. X-Heads are molded in a high temperature resistant nylon and installation takes five minutes - slightly longer on RTs - with included stainless steel bolts. The bolt threads are coated with Nyloc thread locking patch to keep the bolts from loosening. If your crash bars have had an impact, check that there is still a minimum of 15mm clearance between the crash bars and the X-Heads. Sold in pairs.

Shoei Qwest Solid Helmet The Shoei Qwest Motorcycle Helmet was built with a focus on minimizing helmet weight, optimizing fit for comfort and protection and lowering noise levels to bring a new level of comfort to touring helmets. Featuring a slightly round oval internal shape, the Qwest helmet is manufactured with 4 individual shell sizes to keep the helmet as low-profile as possible. The smaller the helmet shell, the lighter the helmet weight. The Shoei Qwest Helmet also uses the Shoei's CW-1 visor technology with the Q.R.S.A system. This system guarantees a tight seal at the faceshield by pulling the shield back to contact the opening seal evenly. The Qwest also touts an extra-wide viewport for additional peripheral vision so you can more easily take in the world around you. Aerodynamic Shell Design Aerodynamic properties are maximized through extensive wind tunnel and feedback from professional riders Dual-Layer EPS liner enhances impact absorption and ventilation Four shell and six EPS liner sizes increase fit options that help to comfortably fit most head sizes Molded air spoiler reduces drag and lift as well as diminishes weight pressure on the neck while riding at high speeds Ventilation System Upper Air Intake Vent is positioned to maximize air volume into the helmet interior Large upper intake vent positioned to maximize performance in high wind conditions Easy to operate large lower intake vent Lower air intake/defroster vent reduces shield fogging and increases ventilation Rear/neck outlets allow for effective air exhaust Breath guard and chin curtain are included Lightweight Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus (AIM+) High performance fiber materials are combined with extremely elastic organic fibers to create a shell structure that is ultra lightweight, rigid and resilient Interior 3D center pad and multi-layered, polyurethane foam cheek pads Cheek pads are replaceable or removable for maintenance Eyeglass-compatible interior Standard chin strap clip neatly secures chin strap CW-1 Shield and Q.R.S.A. Read some reviews and decided on the Qwest white for myself. My head is large but a little narrow. It fit just fine even though it's a pretty round fit. Liked it enough that I got a matching medium for passengers. So far had two women wearing the helmet and a medium with the standard cheek pads fit both of them. Also installed AutoCom headsets in both no problem. The speakers are oval and the helmets give you a round space for the speakers that's a little shorter than the oval but even so they don't bother my ears or passengers. Helmet fits fine with ear plugs.

Nice to be able to custom fit. I have a big head but more narrow jaw. With the new pads the helmet fits great, although I kind of agree with some other viewers that for the price of the Shoei sizing pads should come at a discount/swap.

Update to the Review
Posted August 25, 2012
Well I have had the misfortune of dropping the bike and crashing now so I can give a much better review. One night in Istanbul I was really tired (it's way too dangerous to drive a motorcycle there) and I dropped the bike jumping a high curb. The cylinder head came right down on the curb but there was no damage to the engine. The next day in a slippery intersection that a street sweeper had just left soapy water on, I low sided at around 20 MPH when I touched the throttle to complete the turn. My bike, passenger, and I all slid about 20 feet. I righted the bike and there was no engine damage thanks to these covers, I drove away. The covers were worn down a little bit from the abrasion (see picture) but not too bad. Then in Split Croatia I drove down a steep narrow pedestrian-only alley in old town and dropped the bike again trying to get off it to push it uphill and turn around. All 3 drops have been on the left side. Thank god I bought these things!
