Bell Star RSD Blast Helmet The latest generation of a helmet that started a safety revolution in motorsports, the Bell Star Helmet has been reborn to serve the two wheeled masses with even greater comfort, performance and protection. Redesigned with a smaller profile for a more refined fit and tuned specifically for the upright riding position, the Bell Star combines the comfort and riding characteristics of a touring helmet with race-bred aerodynamics and performance. STREETVIEW: The Star features two unique profile shapes for two distinctly different types of riding. The Raceview profile used on the Pro Star and Race Star uses an orientation specifically optimized for a tucked, more compact position. Conversely, the Streetview profile used for the Star is designed for a more upright, sport or touring position. PANOVISION VIEWPORT: No matter what or how you ride, one factor remains constant: the need for maximum visibility. Whether racing or going on a simple ride in the mountains, the ability to make safe headchecks and see obstacles clearly is critical. The Panovision viewport in the Star offers riders additional vertical and lateral visibility over the previous Star and more traditional viewports. This allows the rider to see better in a tight or tucked position and make saferlane changes and head-checks. EYEWEAR COMPATIBLE: Using prescription glasses or a preferred pair of shades is now possible with eyewear arm pockets woven right into the interior liner X-STATIC LINER: A leader in antimicrobial fabric technology, X-Static material is clinically-proven to provide bacteria and odor protection throughout the life of the liner. X-Static fibers are permanently bonded with a layer of 99.9 pure metallic silver. This silver layer is the key to X-Statics powerful antimicrobial properties, as it creates an ionic shield that permanently inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi. Fabrics made with X-Static fibers are flexible, with the natural look and feel of traditional textiles, while offering all the benefits of pure silver. TRI-MATRIX COMPOSITE SHELL: A proprietary mix of Aramid, carbon fiber, and fiberglass delivers all the strength of carbon fiber in a more budget-protecting package. Woven synthetic fibers have long been proven to be some of the most practical solutions where lightweight strength is required. Bell's Tri-Matrix shell utilizes the combined power and superior characteristics of these race-proven synthetics, offering unmatched strength and durability. Features: Tri-Matrix Composite Shell X-Static Liner Eyewear compatible Streetview profile 6 EPS and 5 shell sizes Meets or exceeds Snell M2015 and DOT certifications

Reviewing the new Star after approximately two weeks of near-daily use, replacing an RS-1 I'd worn for 3.5 years. I ordered the base Star in Medium, and found it to be an excellent fit; I am somewhere between an Intermediate and Long Oval shape and the Star fits my head perfectly, one of the few helmets I've ever tried that doesn't put pressure on my forehead. The weight is OK; the RS-1 was a particularly light helmet, and the Star feels approximately similar, maybe a few ounces heavier, but it's well-balanced.
While it doesn't have the whiz-bang jade liner of the Race and Pro Stars, the lining in the helmet is very comfortable and wicks sweat well. The cheek pads were tight when I first got the helmet, but broke in after 5-6 total hours of riding and are still very snug without being uncomfortable. Same for the top lining. The ventilation in this helmet is excellent, with the chin and brow vents flowing a ton of air, and the top vent flowing enough to provide actual cooling to the top of my head at speed.
Noise and aerodynamics are on the quiet side of average; the helmet is very quiet with my head in an upright position, but is somewhat loud when tilted downwards, i.e. in a tuck position. Windscreen turbulence has an effect, but it is surprisingly quiet in clean air. The spoiler on the back has a noticeable effect at speed, with a very centered feeling and noticeable pull towards center when cleaning my head. Visibility is excellent, the Panovision design actually does deliver better sideways visibility relative to Bell's previous models. The visor mechanism feels much more solid than previous Bell models, operates effortlessly, and seals much better than previous models, but does not have any detents between cracked and fully open, a flaw that has been more of an annoyance than I expected in the summer months. The visor release is very quick and easy, but requires a decent sideways push to ensure proper seating; I've had the visor pop out on me twice as a result of this, and this is the only area I felt warranted anything less than 5 stars.
Others on here have mentioned difficulty in installing Bluetooth communicators; I use a Sena 20S, and did encounter minor difficulties installing it; the neck roll fits so tightly into the outer shell that it is impossible to fit a communicator clamp between it and the shell; I used the included Sena sticky mount, which still does not have enough contact area to really be effective. I plan on trying a few different things and updating as I do so. Speaker placement is OK; the helmet does not have dedicated speaker cutouts in the EPS, but the pads do have an open area that makes it possible for speakers to be mounted over the wearer's ears; whether this works for you will depend on your head, but I have to mount my speakers quite far forward to be able to hear them.
Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase; I would put the base Star on the same level as a Shoei RF-1200 or Arai Defiant or RX-Q in terms of quality, and the fit as mentioned earlier is better than any helmet I've yet tried. Bell have put themselves squarely into the high-end realm of helmets with the new Star.

I went out on a limb buying this boot, since it was a brand-new product with no reviews, but I was looking for an over-the-ankle boot that was styled well enough to wear on an everyday basis. The X-Action definitely delivers in that respect, the materials are very high-quality and it's a very good-looking boot. The zippers and velcro are very well-made, and really simplify the process of getting them on and off.
My only issue with the boots came with the sizing. I normally wear a size 10.5-11 shoe, and ordered the size 10 boot accordingly. They were at least a size too large when I received them, and I immediately had to send them back for the size 9. The 9's fit much better, my feet are slightly different sizes so it's not 100% perfect, but they fit as well as can be expected. On the bike, they're quite comfortable, hardly any airflow, but the waterproofing definitely works. If worn and walked around in for long periods of time, the upper cuff will start to chafe the sides of my ankle, but other than that, they're comfortable enough to wear daily. Would definitely recommend these boots.
