Why is it called a rain boot? Does it only work in the rain?
This may be a dumb question.
First, there are no dumb questions. The boot has some sort of rain protection, whether it be Gore-Tex or some other membrane. Leather or other fabrics will eventually allow water through them and rain boots should have sealed seams as well. Yes, they work in all weather, but depending on the type of waterproofing and membrane, they could be much hotter and sweatier than boots that are not "rain" rated.
