Nolan N104 Action Helmet Nolan N104 Helmets represent an evolutionary step for Nolan as they replace the much touted N103 Helmet. When compared the older N103, the Nolan N104 Helmet offers a helmet which is much lighter (7oz), features a lower profile through the use of multiple shell sizes, better aerodynamics, as well as a much larger viewport for increased visibility. The (patented) chin guard rotation movement with elliptical trajectory makes it possible to keep the total size of the helmet's front section to a minimum, when the chin guard is open. The sail effect is consequently highly reduced and riding comfort is still guaranteed, even when the chin guard is lifted. The new ultrawide eyeport is the largest of any Nolan helmet, both vertically and laterally for maximum field of view. The AIRBOOSTER ventilation system is equipped with an air intake in the chin bar, another intake in the brow and two rear extractors at the rear. The inner comfort lining includes removable cheekpads, inner liner, neckroll and chin curtain and is easily removable and washable as well as antifungal and antibacterial. New, redesigned comfort liner also accommodates eyeglasses much more easily than before. All Nolan N104 helmets are also N-COM B4 ready ( N-COM B4 is designed expressly for the N104 and is sold separately). Shell Features Injected polycarbonate GE Lexan shell 7oz lighter than the Nolan N103 Two Shell engineering allows Nolan N104 to offer sizes from 2XS to 3XL (2XS-LG and XL-3XL) Dimensionally correct sizing allows ample cubic volume in chin/nose area Faceshield Features Face shields are now sized to fit the two different shell sizes (2XS-LG and XL-3XL) Ultra wide eye port opening is the largest on any Nolan helmet for superior visibility Shield is changed by a simple push button mechanism Pinlock shield included with each helmet VPS (Vision Protection System) is new slider bar to lower, push button release for instant retraction VPS lens is scratch and fog resistant Chin Bar Features Centromatic chin guard opening mechanism requires dual action, simultaneous action to prevent accidental opening Dual action opening mechanism is positioned in the centre of the chin guard and allows for easy, one-handed opening Ventilation N104 has new AIRBOOSTER ventilation system, ensures optimal ventilation where is is most required Air intake in the chin guard draws air in and onto the inside of the faceshield 3 position top vent (closed, crown vent, crown/brow vent) 2 venturi exhaust ports at rear of helmet New plastic vent tube channels in EPS disperse cool air throughout the helmet interior Inner Liner Features removable cheek pads, inner liner, neck roll and wind protector The inner padding of the new N104 is easily removable and washable and antibacterial The shape of the inner comfort padding facilitates eyeglass wearing Reflective insert at the centre of the roll neck further improves the rider's visibility at night Neck roll can be removed easily, for more comfort in the warmer months Other Features N-Com Communication System compatible (sold separately) Features new Microlock2 quick-release retention system Microlock2 consists of a plastic ergonomic opening lever, and of a second aluminium toothed and holding lever Microlock2 minimizes the possibility of unintentional opening while still making it ergonomic and easy to use Meets or exceeds D.O.T. standards

I feel like I've tried just about every helmet on the market now, but this was my first Nolan. My impressions are that it is a nice looking helmet with a lot of features, but some of those features work against it.
Pros:
- good looking
- many features that people are looking for today
- relatively quiet for a flip up
- pin lock
Cons:
- thin padding
- creaky design doesn't inspire confidence
- most of the switches and sliders have a cheap, plastic-y feel
- sun shade vibrates and leaves a gap above your nose
- sheild slams down on it's own - will not stay up if you are trying to get some air above 30mph or so
- hot, hot, hot.
So overall I think it's a good helmet for the price. Flip ups are tough - they tend to be noisy and a little creaky just due to their design. If this one is in your price point, it's a good option but with the downsides listed above. The Neotec is a better helmet for sure, but it is significantly more expensive. Good helmet, but short of great..

Shoei Neotec Modular Helmet Evolving on previous designs, Shoei has revamped its modular helmet style with a streamlined and attractively sculpted shape that conveys the feel of freely moving through the outdoors in the Shoei Neotec Modular Helmet. Overall shell size is kept compact by incorporating the internal sun visors open/close mechanism inside all ventilation mechanisms are shaped and positioned in such a way as to reduce any possible drag. A redesigned aerodynamic spoiler also helps to cut lift, reducing neck strain on long, cross country rides. In the Shoei Neotec all these features combine to create a premium helmet that excels in appearance, protection, comfort and performance. The Shoei Neotec Helmets chin bar is connected to the same axis point and mechanism as its shield, minimizing extra parts. This also enables simultaneous closing of the shield with the chin bar, which is then held in place with an easy-open lock release button. The shield lock system offers secure closure or the ability to keep the shield slightly open to allow for increased airflow. With the Shoei Neotec Helmet, Shoei now includes a built-in sun shield, the QSV-1. The visor tucks neatly away beneath a non-intrusive shell built into the helmets liner, and can be lowered with the easy control of a sliding button. Shoei Neotec Helmet Features Face Shield Features Easily operable lever mechanism Anti-fog, anti-scratch, 99 UV blocking New Pinlock-ready CNS-1 faceshield Wider and taller than the CX-1V that it replaces Includes Pinlock insert 3D injection molding process ensures a distortion-free view Improved Ventilation and Aerodynamics Newly designed vortex generators pull air through helmet 276 more airflow than Multitec Added inlets and outlets Vents are flush against helmet to maintain aerodynamics 5-Ply Shock-Absorbing Fiber Shell 3 shell sizes AIM Multi-Composite construction Lightweight yet strong Shell-integrated spoiler reduces lift and drag during high-speed riding Dual EPS Liner Multi-density EPS for optimal protection Two vents funnel fresh air through the EPS liner Dual liner channels route and disperse air evenly throughout the helmet EPS liner in chin bar All new interior Fully removable 3D interior liner Top center pad is removable and washable Improved cheekpad design allows better fit with eyeglasses Included chin curtain can be inserted into the chin bar to reduce turbulence and noise All Neotec Helmets sold in the US have a double D-ring closure Be sure to check out our Shoei Neotec Review above, in which we detail and break down all of the features and functionality of the brand new Shoei Neotec Helmet. This is a really, really well built helmet. The features are all there, it looks good, and it really doesn't seem to fall short in any category.... except one. If you are coming from the MULTITEC, be forewarned that they fit differently. The Multi seemed to be a little big for it's size and was what I could call "roomy". The NEOTEC is not. It is slightly smaller inside and the cheek pads are much tighter than the Multi. Now, I think this has a lot to do with an improved design - I'm sure it contributes to superior safety and noise reduction, but it is something to consider when ordering. You may want to go one size up. Overall though, Shoei makes great helmets for the money and this is no exception.

I've been a Tourmaster guy traditionally for a number of reasons, but mainly due to pricing and because they offer sizes that fit a plus sized guy like me (6ft 1in, 275lbs). Recently however I decided that I wanted to try a hi-viz jacket, and I also was curious to investigate other brands just to see what was out there. With that in mind I ordered the Olympia Moab and I've been very pleased with it. I could tell right away that the construction was superior to the jackets I already own - the Moab feels substantial and rugged and the materials used seem as if they will survive an incident better than my TourMaster gear. I hope to never find out, but that is the impression that I have after putting about 1000 miles on this jacket. It comes with a really nice thermal insert and a rain jacket that are also high quality pieces. And it's bright.. whew, my eyes are still getting used to it! Only a few things to nit pick: the mandaring collar closure is a bit annoying, but it is lined around the neck with a great soft material, so that helps. Also, it bunches a bit in the front when riding, but that's not a big deal. So overally I really like this jacket. I've been comfortable from the low 50s through the low 80s in it and I'm sure I could ride in much cooler temps with the liners in. The fact is, when it gets to the mid 90s here in GA, there's not much you can wear that won't get hot, but the jacket does flow air well. Looking forward to putting many more miles on it.

I'm a Shoei fan - I think they are great helmets for the money and they just fit my head. Of the Shoeis, I've settled on the RF1100 mainly due to fit and the fact that it moves air better than any helmet I've worn. One thing however - for me the most comfortable RF1100 is the 3XL, but it is only offered in solid colors (which I already have). SO, after much research, I found that the 2XL and 3XL shell sizes are the same, and that you can purchase the cheek pads and liner for a 3XL. The stock 2XL was comfy, but a bit snug. After substituting the cheekpads and liner, I had a much more comfortable helmet with the good looking graphics I was looking for. Ha! Only downside to the RF is noise - but that's a tradeoff for airflow I suppose.

I really, really like this jacket. Most of the year I wear a Tourmaster Sonora jacket because it's mesh and keeps me cool in the Southern heat. However, it's getting to be that time of year when temps are unpredictable and can swing wildly during the course of the day. I wore this jacket recently on a ride that went from the low 50s in the am to the low 80s in the afternoon. The Transition 2 was really comfortable in the cooler temps with the liner in, and as the day progressed I removed the liner, then opened all the vents. With the vents open it moves an impressive amount of air and I was comfortable all day.
Tourmaster fits me well - and I'm not a small guy at all. I actually find the fit and materials more comfortable than competing gear (I've owned most of the brands out there) and I think it looks good too.
Money well spent.

Nice pants. I have a hard time with riding pants because they never seem to fit, but these are actually very comparable to my regular jeans sizing. They are quite comfortable on the bike. Walking around is a bit clunky because the knee pads fall down to a wierd position, but I've found that on most riding pants. I don't know that they are any cooler than say jeans, but they weren't any hotter either, if that makes any sense. Overall, money well spent.

I bought this in preparation for a week long trip I was taking at the beginning of June. When I first opened it up, it seemed like a nice enough bag. Without expanding the top it is actually quite small on the inside however.
Now for the real problems. First, when attaching to the bike with the supplied straps, the bag isn't really secure. It still moves around a bit. What's worse however, is that as I was trying to hook it up with the supplied straps, one of the hooks pulled right off of the bungy chord. So, without resorting to external tie downs, the bag was then useless.
I usually don't write reviews if I just don't like a product for some reason. That's usually on me for some reason. But this product is just not a great piece of equipment and I thought others should know.

I've owned a ton of Shoei's now (thanks RevZilla) and recently purchased this RF 1100 because they offered the solid colors in a 3XL size. I have a "shoei head" but it still is a bit difficult to fit. I seem to be just on the outer edge of 2XL depending on the model . To my surprise, the 3XL was almost too big! That's ok though, as I purchased a thicker set of cheek pads and now it fits great. It's a great option for those of us with big craniums. My x-12 fits perfectly in 2XL and this might have as well, but I'm happy with this helmet the way it is. It's quiet and comfortable. Not much more that I could ask for!

Love this helmet. I definitely have a "shoei head", so I've been on a bit of a mission lately to find just the right one. I've tried almost all of the Shoeis (thanks RevZilla) and this one has come out on top. I had an x-11 that was a great helmet, but it was just a bit too small. This new x-12 is comfortable, quiet and good looking. It's not cheap, but I value my head, so I don't mind spending a few extra dollars on it. The 2XL I purchased was just right, but I did put a slightly smaller set of cheek pads in it to make my fat face more comfortable. Surprisingly, this vents better than my Qwest, though that may have something to do with the overall fit of the helmet. Love it.

I already have a Shoei X-11 that I love, but I was looking for something new. The Qwest is a really nice helmet - it is almost as comfortable as my X-11, and definitely quieter. It doesn't fog like the X-11 so that tells me that it probably vents better, though I can't really tell a huge difference between the two helmets yet. Overally I'm very happy with it. It feels solid and like a quality piece.
Pros Fashionable, Comfortable
Yes, I recommend this product.

How does the fit of the RF-1100 compare to that of the X-11?

The x-11 I had seemed to be a bit more round in shape and slightly more snug. I prefer the RF1100 but it will depend on your head shape.

RF-1100 Sizing

My heads circumference measures exactly 22 inches. This falls at the end of the Small size which is 21 5/8-22 inches. Would it be better to go with a Medium or try a Small first?
I'd go with a medium and then you can adjust the size with new cheek pads.

Good for a cruiser?

The RF-1100 looks like a nice step up from the Qwest, though I'm curious if it would work well riding a cruiser like a Yamaha V-Star when you're in a fully upright position.
Definitely. I had a Qwest and it was a good helmet, but I now ride with 2 RF1100s and just love them. They are a bit noisy, but they move so much more air than anything else I've ever used, that it's entirely worth it to me. RF1100 is my favorite helmet without a doubt.
