What I really LOVE about this set of tires is the transitions from full left lean to full left lean while in the "twisties". The tires are made with one compound instead of two, and uses different belt tensions. This, IMHO makes the transitions from left to right and back again, and again, very EFFORTLESS. I have ridden several tires, i.e. Metzlers, Conti's, and Bridgestones, but have never felt so confident as I do with the Pirelli Angel ST's. I cannot speak to the traction in wet conditions. I live in Arizona and can speak of traction in dry, sandy, rough pavement conditions, and could not be happier with the performance of these tires in those conditions.

I love this tire. I like the idea of the tire having two different steel belts in the carcass instead of two different rubber compounds on the tire. The tire handles amazingly well in dry situations. I live in Arizona, so wet performance will have to wait for quite awhile to critique. Pirelli is the parent company of Metzeler and the tire technology on the Metzeler Roadtec Interact (Z6 & Z8) are the same as the Pirelli ST. Only the tire tread is different. I have the Metzeler Z6 interact on the front, and the Angel ST on the rear, and the handling is amazing for a BMW R1200RT. I am sure the tire life will exceed my expectations.

I received my order today and found that there is no documentation for this product included in the shipping package. I called Revzilla and spoke with a customer service agent who helped me orient the armor. Apparently, the smooth side of the armor goes toward your knee, and the bumpy side faces out. That being said, the armor is very light and very thin. I have seen demonstrations on how this armor works and I have no fears about the armor being protective and safe for riding.
I replaced the foam knee protection in my Firstgear Mesh tec 2.0 pants, which felt a bit flimsy to me and did not inspire much confidence.

The shield appears to be quite dark from the outside, but surprisingly light when looking out. At first I was disappointed, but later, I was coming back from a late afternoon ride, and it started to get dark. I did not carry a clear shield, but found I did not need one as this shield allowed plenty of light in at dusk.

An awesome helmet!

This is my first review, so be gentle, lol. This helmet is amazing. I have owned at least 50 helmets in my time riding. Some more expensive than the Qwest, some less. But, I must say, none of them impressed me right out of the box like the Qwest.
One of my biggest peeves about full face helmets is that they can be terribly noisy. With vents here, there, everywhere, some added on, some look like they were poorly glued on, but always adding to noise inside the helmet. So, let's start with first impressions: Right out of the box, I noticed a beautiful finish on the helmet, and the perfect fit of all plastic vent controls. I observed that the front vent, nicely incorporated into the brow of the helmet, was glove friendly, and simple to open and close. As I viewed the rear vents, I was amazed and pleased to see that you can open and close the exhaust vents easily. They are nicely incorporated into the rear of the helmet, and, as state previously, easy to operate with gloves.
Next, is fit. Snug at first, not tight, just snug. But it makes you feel "at home" and safe. No kidding, I mean exactly what I say. The shield closes with an authoritative snap, and I have great confidence that this helmet will, in fact, be much quieter than the HJC AC-12 Carbon that I am replacing.
Last but not least...WEIGHT!. Coming from a full carbon helmet, I expected more weight. This is light and neutral on my head.
I like this helmet a great deal. It is designed for those of us who do not ride in a tucked position, and therefore, the ventilation will work for Sport Touring, Touring, and naked bike riders. Oh and let's not forget the price line. This, is perfect in price. A great, mid range, quiet, full featured helmet for less than $350.00 [Shoei Qwest Solid Color - Light Silver Helmet]. Can you say BARGAIN!
My review of Revizilla will be much more positive than this, lol.

How do these pads fit in the garment?

There is no documentation with the knee pads, and nothing on the pads themselves to indicate their orientation. Does the smooth side face out or in?

I want to order a shoei qwest in xs.Are the sizes in the US the same as europe?

I tried a qwest in europe xs and it was perfect fit..are the lids in US the same fit ?I know the sticker (snell)is different but am not worried about this. Are the shells the same shape because I know the ones sold in Japan are different.tried one when there and could'nt wear it.Thanks for your help.
Go to the Shoei Qwest listing here on Revzilla and click on the "size chart" icon. Once there, you can click on the "convert to Centimeters". Then simply measure your head with a soft measuring tape around the thickest part of your skull at the rear, and just above the eyebrows in front. Then choose the size that corresponds to your measurements. That way you get what you need.

Shoei sizing vs Arai RXQ

I wear an Arai RXQ size small. What size should I get in Shoei Quest?
I would say Small. The RXQ and Shoei Quest have a very similar fit.

Qwest Shoei Logo Removable?

Is the overly huge Shoei branding on the front of the helmet removable? I was able to take it off of my old RF1000 without a lot of fanfare, but this looks to be 'captured' onto the helmet. I love Shoei's products but the branding is excessive IMHO. Maybe not enough to chose another helmet - as I have a 'Shoei Head' - but I am put off by the size and location of it, especially if it is integral to the helmet.
You got me thinking about this, so I removed mine last night. The answer is YES, you can remove it, but it takes a few minutes and patience. If you have a plastic scraper (paint scraper) it can make the removal a lot easier. Also, goo gone for the residual. It does look much better without the HUGE logo on the front.

RF-1100 vs Qwest

Well, I can't decide between the RF-1100 and the Qwest... I don't own a bike just yet and I'm starting my course in 3 weeks. I tried both on and still, they are pretty similar...
This is fairly simple to answer. It all depends on what kind of bike you are going to be riding. If you are riding a sport bike, with a forward leaning position would use the RF-1100. If you are riding a standard, touring, or sport touring bike with a more upright position, use the Qwest.
If you look at the helmets side by side, you will see that the Qwest has the top vent located further back to allow for more air in an upright position. The RF series as the vents more to the front of the helmet to allow for more air in a forward riding position.

Size compared to Shoei TZ-R?

I have the Shoei TZ-R in Large size and it is a good, comfortable fit. Do you know what the comparable size in this helmet would be?
The Shoei Quest will fit the same as the TZ-R, although the Quest fits a bit more snug. It takes a little time for the cheek pads to adjust to your face, so it does feel tight at first. I would say that ordering your normal size, large, would be the correct way to proceed. The shell of the Quest is much stiffer, so putting it on and taking it off is a little different than the TZ-R too. But the helmet is a great upgrade.

Size and fit questions?

Looking at the charts, I guess I'm either a "large Medium" or a "small Large" -- what do you recommend in terms of size selection? Also, I notice there are no straps or snaps to adjust the snugness of the arms; I have average to thin arms for my size, so wonder if there'd be trouble keeping the armor in the right place? Same questions apply to all Firstgear jackets, I guess...
This Firstgear jacket has a standard fit. If you normally wear a medium, purchase a medium. If you normally get a large, then get the large. As far as the armor goes, I have never experienced any problem with the armor not staying in place. It is an excellent jacket, and with the liner in place, is comfortable down to the low 60's with just a shirt on underneath. It is great during the warmer months and allows plenty of air in to cool your body.

If this does not answer your question about size, I would recommend that you by the medium size jacket since you are a large medium.

Helmet advise

Hi, I am currently using a Scorpion EXO 1000 on my BMW K1200S. At higher speeds (and medium) I find it very noisy. I have been looking at AGV's GP-Tech, Arai's Q and also Schubert. I am wearing fitted earplugs but they start hurting after a few hours of riding. What would you recommend?
Thanks, Hans.
Hans,
If you ride a K1200S then you ride in a more tucked position, right? Like a sport bike style of riding? The RX-Q is a great helmet and is very quiet when the vents are not open, but there is something you should consider here...the RX-Q is designed for an upright riding position, aka touring position. The vent is located further back on the top of the helmet and won't be of much use to you in a tucked position. The Schubert is the same style...for touring. Look for helmets designed for your type of riding, where the vents are forward.

As for ear plugs. I stopped wearing the expensive fitted plugs for the same reason you site. Instead, I use a an ear plug made of natural fibers and bees wax (yes, bees wax) which easily molds to the shape of my ears, and I can wear them for 10 hours without any problem with discomfort at all.

who has a better touring full face helmet arai or shoei? I've been considering one or the other.

IMHO, it depends on the shape of your head. I have a medium oval shaped head, which tends to feel better in a Shoei. I have the Shoei Quest, in Silver, and could not be happier with the fit. If you have more of a round shaped head, Arai seems to fit better. Please note that the Shoei Quest and the New Arai RX-Q are true touring helmets. The vents are higher on the head to be more efficient in an upright seating position. One last thing, the new RX-Q does seem to fit a more oval shaped head, a departure from the rest of the Arai line.
The best thing for you to do, if you can, is try the helmets on and see for yourself. The Shoei is MUCH cheaper than the Arai!

Does the Qwest come with a face shield, or will I need to order one?

Yes, the quest comes with a fine clear face shield with a very wide field of vision.
