I really wanted to like the Veleta. I was looking for a waterproof, three-season, protective glove to fit between my Held Air and my TourMaster Winter Elite.
I wanted just enough room to layer a super-thin liner glove, which on an RT with heated grips would take me down to my real winter gloves, but light enough to take into late Spring showers.
I have 9 to 9.5 hands, wear a size 9 in Held, have worn size L Dainese before, and ordered an XL. XL was the correct choice — I don't think I could have fit my knuckles into the L.
I found the Veleta puzzling.
The knuckle protector conspired with the mid-hand shape to make the glove feel extremely constricting and tiring — it fights you when you try to grip the bars — and yet the fingers are loose and over-long. There are protectors on the second knuckles, but only the barest hint of padding on the heel of the hand, and no abrasion protection there. The palm/heel protection leaves the bones at the base of the hands exposed, which makes me think it was designed for someone with a slim, short hand and long, fat fingers.
The wrist closure manages to be both uncomfortable (tightly folding the stitching of the "GORE-TEX gloves with X-TRAFIT" strip into the skin of your wrist) and ineffective — at its tightest I could still pull the glove off my hand, thanks to the elasticated section below the palm.
I did like the solidity of the knuckle protection, the distortion control, and the overall stitching and construction — nice double stitching and neat seams throughout. They're good looking gloves, too.
I didn't test the waterproofing, because I'll be returning them.
In conclusion: nice ideas, great on paper, but missing out in a bunch of critical areas.
No, I do not recommend this product.
