Overall I really like this glove a lot, but it doesn't come without some of the give and takes that go along with a hybrid. As another reviewer mentioned, but power level buttons can be a little difficult to find. It is easy enough if you set them before you put the gloves on, but if you later decide you want to increase or decrease the heat, they can take a little effort. Also the battery pack ads bulk to the wrist area. This can make it difficult to work with some jackets, as the gauntlet is not overly large, so it may not fit over or under the way you would hope.
That said, the convenience of the glove is that it is perfect on battery power for cooler days where you are overall dressed warm enough, but it gets a little cold on your fingers. You don't have to gear up with the heated liner, heat troller, etc. and connect all the wires. Put on the gloves, power them on, fingers become warmer. I look at the battery option for when heated grips alone may not be quite cutting it, but it isn't quite cold enough for wiring myself up. Perfect for the work/school commute or for when you know you may be coming home when it is later/colder outside than when you left.
For when you do want full heat and control, they wire up nicely to the jacket and heat controller for extended riding with warm hands and core. The only trade-off at that point being the bulk of the battery back still in the wrist area. I suppose the batteries could simply be taken out and put in a pannier, tank bag or pocket, but they don't bother me enough to do that.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I have been very pleased with the purchase of this jacket. I gave slight marks off for bang for buck, because I think it could be priced a little lower, but it isn't totally out of line for a gore-tex jacket either. I also took one mark down for durability, but of course increasing durability would come at the cost of weight and packability. There are always trade-offs.
The jacket is breathable, lightweight, packable and fairly tough for the low weight. It is comfortable to wear, and doesn't get clammy or make you feel too warm. The hood fits well under a helmet, preventing cold rain from sliding down your back. It is a really nice extra piece of gear to have with you, should you encounter an unexpected rain.
The jacket is stylish enough, and comfortable enough to wear off the bike as well. I use it for cooler summer nights where you need a little bit of a wind breaker, or for when it is raining whenever I get to my destination.
Sizing. I would say this jacket is true to size. I purchased the same size I would in other jackets and the fit is spot on. The cut is generous enough to fit over body armor, without looking too bulky over a T-Shirt. If you instead wear a padded jacket, the stow-away is really intended to be a rain-proof liner, rather than an over jacket, and works well in this regard. Not too bulky, not uncomfortable under a jacket.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I purchased these in December, so I can not yet comment on the effectiveness of the BeCool fiber to keep you dry and cool in the summer heat.
Otherwise these pants are great. The material is well constructed, with plenty of stretch. Armor pads can be moved and adjusted to where you want them to stay, and they seem to stay.
The biggest problem I have always had with motorcycle pants, is that the knee armor is everywhere except where I actually need/want it. Shy of purchasing a custom built suit, you are always at the mercy of the manufacturer, with maybe some slight adjustment available. Being taller, the high position for most pants was never high enough and often the pants were too loose allowing the armor to shift left or right. I never had much confidence in it being where it needed to be in the event of an off.
This problem is solved with the Forcefield Pro pants. You put them on, you adjust the pad over your knee, it stays over your knee, standing, sitting on the bike, it stays where it should. The thigh, hip and coccyx pads are all comfortable, and become more malleable as they warm, allowing an increase in comfort once you have had them on for a few minutes.
As others have mentioned, they do run a little big. When choosing a pair, keep in mind that these are intended to be a skin tight base layer. The material is very flexible and form fitting. Also materials such as BeCool, and DryMax don't really work to full effectiveness unless they are stretched across the skin making direct contact. This is also what helps the pads stay where you place them. They should NOT fit loosely. It is a base layer, not a stand alone pant, so keep in mind you will likely need to choose a size 1 below what you would normally choose for a riding pant.
Yes, I recommend this product.

This tire gives excellent grip in dry and wet conditions. Wet traction is outstanding. Tread life is very good. I did only mark it "good" in terms of grip, but refers mostly to it's off-road abilities. Like any tire in the 90/10 through 70/30 category (I would call the Anakee 2 a 75/25) grip is fine on maintained dirt roads. Get the bike into sand, mud or deep gravel and you really need a more agressive tire. Cornering - excellent, high speed stability - excellent, it does seem to track tar snakes a little more than my previous tire (Heidenau K-76), but not in a scary way, just more noticeably.

Arai SAI Max Vision Pinlock Insert w/ Brow Vents is a perfect addition to any Arai helmet using the SAI visor. The visor has an indent for this insert to sit, so that it can extend beyond the gaskets and out of the field of view. You don't get the outline of the pinlock around your visor as you did in the past. Worth the money if you are a Pinlock wearer and want to maximize your field of vision through the insert.

Like a couple of the other reviews, my 5-star rating is biased a little by the close-out price, but I would still give it at least a 4-star rating (4.5 if it were possible). The jacket is solidly constructed, durable, well stitched, built to last. Armor is in pockets outside the sleeve, which allows you to get your arms down the sleeves, even with multiple layers, without getting caught up and bound on internal pockets. Teknic thought of everything, the removable collar is great for colder or rainy weather, there are tons of pockets everywhere, good airflow on the chest, and sleeves as well as a large back vent, plenty of adjustability, cuffs cinch down small and tight.
There are just a couple of minor niggles, that are easy to overlook at the closeout price. The main zipper, as mentioned in other reviews, could be a little thicker/heavier. Also mentioned in a couple of other reviews is that the jacket has long arms. If you are a person with short arms, you may want to avoid this jacket. I also own a First Gear Kilimanjaro in a Long size. The sleeves on this jacket are longer still. You can cinch them down above the wrist, but it is something to be aware of. Also the jacket can be a little thick with the Alumafoil liner in. The stuff keeps you warm, but it is fairly thick. As a result the jacket may fit a little more snug than expected. This is likely by design, the Alumifoil likely works better when closer to the body, but be aware of it. With the liner out, there is plenty of room.
On last niggle, not Teknic's fault. The description says that the Teknic logos are reflective. I have not found this to be the case with mine. What *is* reflective is the piping and along the back, and all of the waterproof zipper garages. I am not sure if there has been some changes made to the jacket since the video was made, or if it is simply an error.

I was excited about receiving these gloves, but the excitement turned to disappointment. The gloves are small fitting, and not particularly well constructed. On the hand they felt thick and awkward. They gloves are not particularly warm on the highway, they definitely fall short of the "Arctic" name.

I have used the Pinlock inserts with a number of different helmets, but this one is a little different. Impressively so. The Arai SAI Max Vision Pinlock Ready Face Shield has an indent where the visor fits into place. This indent allows the pinlock visor to sit flush with the rest of the visor and also use a thicker material than previous inserts, it also allows the insert to overlap the rubber trim of the eye port. The result is a visor that allows for a better functioning pinlock insert, with no visible edges.
Great design and well worth the upgrade.

Arai offers various comfort liners for each helmet size. These liners allow you to have a little more room if tight, or snug up the helmet a little if loose. This option allows for a much more comfortable fit.

SAS-TEC Back Protector Cutting edge SAS-TEC material is intelligent armor constructed from visco elastic soft foam smart molecules. It has earned the highest CE rating available (CE level 2), during an impact, the armor freezes and hardens, absorbing the shock and distributing its force over a large area to reduce the risk of fractures. The protector is not destroyed by impact, but reverts back to its original state and maintains its capability to protect from multiple impacts. SAS-TEC Armor has a soft and pliable exterior (as opposed to rigid KNOX armor) which offers a great deal of comfort and mobility. This protector is anatomically designed and fitted to provide superior spine and back protection as well as the base of the neck /between the shoulder blades. SC-1/11 fits Women's Turbine Jacket SC-1/12 fits REV'IT! Cayenne Pro Jacket and Turbine Jacket REV'IT Gore-Tex Jackets have different shaped back protector pockets depending on the size of jacket, see the size chart for fitment information SC-1/16 should only be used for XYL or larger Gore-Tex Jackets SC-1/11 Measurements (approximate) Height 15 3/4 Width (at widest point) 13 Thickness 3/4 SC-1/12 Measurements (approximate) Height 19 Width (at widest point) 13 Thickness 3/4 SC-1/16 Measurements (approximate) Height 21 3/8 Width (at widest point) 13 3/8 Thickness 3/4

What size Sas-Tec back protector will fit a 2012 FirstGear Kilimanjaro jacket (Men's Medium)?

The SC-1/12 will fit, but must be trimmed to size. The Killimanjaro uses as unique, proprietary shape and size. As a result there is no direct option, but the Sas-Tec pads may be trimmed. I used the insert that came with my Killimanjaro as a patter for trimming.

Optimal riding position?

What riding position is this helmet designed for?
The XR1R is a "race level" helmet, and as such I would say the optimal riding position for this helmet is more the tilted racing position. That said, I don't think it is as race specific as say, the Arai Corsair V or for that matter even the Shoei RF-1100. I have one of the Shoei RF-1100 helmets as well as the Nexx XR1R, and the XR1R seems better suited for upright riding than the RF-1100. Less noise and buffeting. From my own personal experience, I would place the XR1R somewhere in between the Shoei RF1100 and more touring/upright specific helmets such as the Shoei Qwest and the Arai RX-Q.

Teknic vs Kilimanjaro 2011

I am a Goldwing rider. I'm having some trouble comparing the Teknic Freeway jacket with the new, 2011 Kilimanjaro jacket. They are both about the same price. What are the pros and cons when comparing waterproofness, breathability, durability, etc of these two jackets.
I have both jackets, and while they are very similar, they are also slightly different.

Pros for the Kilimanjaro:
- It is waterproof on the outside while the Teknic has a built in waterproof liner. The outside shell of the Teknic won't gain a lot of wait like leather, but it is something to consider.

- The Kilimanjaro has a zip out winblocker fleece, which can be worn off-bike and around town. The liner in the Freeway can not.

- The Kilimanjaro comes in a couple of lengths, and least in the larger sizes, so you can choose the length of the sleeves. The Teknic has long sleeves from my experience. Maybe even slightly longer than my Kilimanjaro long.

Pros for the Teknic:

- It is a solidly built jacket, maybe even better constructed than the Kilimanjaro
- The Alumafoil lining is warm, maybe even warmer than the wind blocker fleece of the Kilimanjaro
- The high removable neck functions better in the cold or wet than the Kilimanjaro
- It comes with a CE2 back protector, the Kilimanjaro comes with foam
- The Teknic flows air *far* better, making it a better 4-season jacket.

You honestly can't go wrong with either jacket. They are both excellent jackets, well constructed and durable. They are both waterproof in their own ways, and at least Teknic has a lifetime waterproof guarantee. It really depends if you wan't a 4 season (Teknic) or 3 season (FirstGear), and how big a deal arm length makes. If you have shorter arms the FirstGear may be the best bet, if you have longer than either the Teknic or the FirstGear Long may be the better options.

I am undecided about whether to go with this jacket, or the Teknic Sprint, or the 2012 Freeway.

I am going to be using the jacket for a lot of commuting, year round, plus some adventure touring. (I am planning a tour of Scotland next fall) I really like the side offset zipper on the Sprint, and I think it might be more comfortable on my street bike for commuting, but am not sure how it would do for long distance touring, especially in bad weather. The only problem I have with the 2012 Freeway is the price...
I think you kind of gave yourself about the same advice anyone else could give you. I don't have any first hand experience with the Sprint, but I do have the older Freeway. I too considered the 2012 Freeway, but the 2012 is $150 more than the 2011 on closeout. You have to decide if there are enough differences in features to justify the $150 price difference. For me there was not, and I went with the 2011. But everyone has different priorities. If you want the ability to add the chest armor for one, you could consider that into the price. For me, I decided I would rather put the money toward a Forcefield Armorflex shirt or similar.

Does the black version have reflective material/piping?

The black version, like the high-viz version, has reflective piping along the back. Also the waterproof zipper garage are reflective. Despite what the description says, I have not found that the Teknic logos are reflective, even on the high-viz.
