These offer a good level of protection for the price. They are compact and fit under my kevlar jeans, which are snug to begin with, without any additional discomfort but I wouldn't recommend keeping them on all day. The quality is what you would expect from Alpinestars. I am about 5'11" 185lbs, athletic build and the sm-md size fit my leg perfectly.
I prefer these knee guards to the knee armor in my pants, which I feel may not stay in place on a hard impact. I simply remove the armor from my pants and just wear these under instead. Once these are strapped on, I feel like they are going to stay in place if I go for a slide. I also like that these a CE rated.
My only gripe is that the straps can be a little uncomfortable. After only about a week of use, the part of the strap attached to the plastic loop has stretched enough to where the plastic bit flips sideways against my leg. Sort of hard to describe, but it makes the straps less comfortable and I find myself wanting to readjust that plastic piece if I get of the bike. Not a deal breaker though, I still find myself enjoying the peace of mind that comes with these.
Yes, I recommend this product.

If your jacket came with a flimsy piece of packaging foam as a lame excuse for a back protector, do yourself a favor and add something to it that will actually protect you.
The 001 was a tad bit smaller (by 1 in or so) inside the pocket of my Large BILT mesh jacket when I installed it by itself. So, I just placed it behind the other foam piece to take up the slack in the pocket and that worked fine (you don't want it sliding around in the pocket).
Research the forcefield material and you will understand why you should have one. Don't skimp on your spine!

As far as value, this is a decent product. They are nothing over the top, but I do feel that wearing these is at least better than wearing nothing.
The strap makes for a quick slide on or off the arm, and they are compact enough to wear under the elbow armor in my jacket comfortably (the jacket armor probably wouldn't stay in place, but I don't see a reason to remove it).
They don't belong on the track, but for casual rides or newbies these are probably adequate. I will probably upgrade to something a little more substantial as I become a more aggressive rider.
Yes, I recommend this product.
