If you've got a Shoei-shaped head (you know who you are) and if you're looking for a 3/4 open-faced helmet, this is the one for you. I wanted an open face helmet that would, 1) fit me, 2) provide a clear shield for those inevitable rain showers, and 3) provide an internal shaded eye shield. The J-Cruise has all three.
• The Shoei fit is legendary and this helmet is no exception. Removable interior lining is typically Shoei-plush too.
• The vents on this helmet REALLY flow some air! The only downside to this is that, with the front vent open there is noticeably more noise.
• The oversized clear shield can be used open or closed. The seems to come down a bit lower than most open-face shields and terminates at the bottom with a spoiler lip, which does an excellent job of keeping rain at bay. The shield is also a compact, streamlined design, which doesn't protrude outward from the helmet. It is designed to accommodate a Pinlock inner shield to combat fogging, but I doubt this open face helmet will ever present a fogging issue. My only complaint is that I wish it had multiple intermediate position detents, but alas, it's there's only full open or full closed.
• Fitting a J&M Elite 629 headset was a bit of a chore, as the molded-in pockets were not deep enough to accommodate the speakers without some judicious trimming. Once installed however they sounded marvelous. CAUTION: J&M offers two different 629 speaker designs; one utilizes hollow rubber stalks that surround the wires that come out of the speaker, which are actually supposed to enhance the bass sound. The other has vents in the back of the speaker and no stalks. On this particular helmet, the version with the stalks will NOT work properly. They will sound completely void of bass response. A call to J&M sorted this out and now they sound great with the vented models.
Overall, this is a premium open-faced helmet (at a premium price). Although it will not provide the protection of a full-face helmet, it is as good as it gets in an open face, and light years ahead of any other open-face on the market in my opinion. If you're looking for the freedom that comes with an open face then look no further. I use it for touring on the Goldwing and don't believe I could have made a better choice.
