I originally bought the Alpinestars SMX-1 but I ordered the wrong size. I was a little disappointed that they didn't seem to offer much protection around the ankles, so after returning them I decided to look for something different and I found these.
Yes these are about $60 more than the Alpinestars but they are worth every dime in my opinion. The ankle and heel area provide much more impact protection than the SMX and they are very good looking. They look like a classy pair of basketball shoes, but with all the protection of a street shoe/boot. The drawstring laces are quick and easy and the hidden pocket keeps them from snagging on anything. The stripe in the back is reflective for night visibility and air flow is adequate for hot Florida summers.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Seems to me that these types of pads should be standard included equipment. Isn't the chest a little more important than the elbow or shoulder? Anyway, it is what it is and I don't want to skimp on my protection and these definitely appear to provide far superior protection than the thin foam inserts that come with the jacket. Airflow seems to be good and they really don't affect the fit of the jacket.
Yes, I recommend this product.
