I'm 6' tall, 215lbs, 44" chest, and a little belly (I like beer...) but not too bad. I bought the XL and love it! I can move freely in it but it's not so big that it flaps in the wind. I've ridden in 50 degrees, overcast, with the rainproof liner, and was completely comfortable! I've also ridden in 90+ degrees with just a T-shirt on under the jacket (no liners) and as long as I was moving I was perfectly fine. I did get a little warm when stopped at an intersection with the sun beating down, but with no wind and wearing a black jacket it's going to get a little warm no matter what. Definitely cooler than a leather jacket though!
All in all this is a very versatile jacket that is comfortable to wear in all riding conditions. I have no doubt that with both liners in it will be comfortable in the mild pacific northwest winters as well. As for the protection, it comes with full CE rated armor but I have not tested that yet (thankfully).
