This is my first Shoei helmet and actually my first premium helmet. I ride a Fatboy and I used to wear an HJC 3/4 with a drop down sun visor, so this helmet fit the bill.
Tough choice giving up the freedom and viewing angles of a 3/4 and I debated going with the J-cruise as well.
Let me just say this helmet surprised me. I'm still breaking it in, but it's snug all around. It doesn't grab my forhead as tight as the quest so it allows me to move my eyebrows a bit, but it's still snug through the temples. The liner lets me slide my glasses on very easily with little to no adjustment. The sun shield comes a lot further down than the HJC did on the sides and is very easy to operate with gloves on. (It looks bad @$$ as well)
This helmet is very quiet to me (again compared to an HJC 3/4) even with the shield up at 35-50 mph. The sound from my bike is still muffled (stock Fatboy pipes), but I'm still able to hear voices and cars alongside of me while in traffic.
My only complaint is the fogging. (Keep in mind I'm used to riding open face with just my riding glasses) I put the breath shield in and removed the chin curtain which helped alleviate most of the fogging and if you set the shield at the second detente, there's no fogging at all at low speeds. (Japan traffic) I haven't installed the pin-lock which came with it yet, so I may try that later in the spring.
Viewing angle is exceptional! I tried the Quest and the GT-air easily has a wider field of view to the sides and up/down. I'm still adjusting to the full face as I have to tilt my head down a few degrees to see the speedometer on the tank. (No biggie since I usually go by gear and engine anyway)
Chin curtain: OMG this thing is thick! Feels like there's a triple layer in there with elastic sewn in. Very easy to remove and re-install!
I've only got about 25 miles on it and a little over 4-5 hours of wearing it around the house, but it's already forming up nicely through the face and ears for me. (The ears were a little snug pulling it on and off the first few times)
Good value, some may say a little pricey, but you get the features and quality you pay for!
Yes, I recommend this product.
