After recently buying a Harley Sportster, I was looking for a new helmet to ride with around town since I had only owned full face touring or sport-type helmets. Not wanting to compromise the safety of a 3/4 or 1/2 helmet, the Biltwell Gringo still has the same look (maybe even better), while giving better protection at a great price so I decided to give it a try and I couldn't be happier.
Fit is rounder so keep this in mind, I'd say more like an HJC. I wear a solid medium in most helmets and got a medium but it does fit a bit looser than I am used to. That's really my only complaint. The helmet is really light, not that windy (even on the highway), works great with sunglasses and is really comfortable while still looking cool at a great price.

I bought this helmet primarily for the flexibility of the design and it definitely delivers on that. It also looks pretty cool (especially with the smoke/mirrored optional shield that I would definitely recommend getting). Also, the visibility with the helmet is phenomenal, probably the best you can get in what is effectively a full-face helmet with the chin bar and shield on. And it does include the pin lock anti-fog insert which is great.
The fit is a little on the round side, as described in the review. The only kinda weird thing is getting it on/off is not all that easy due to the narrowness around the ears. Good news is that when it's finally on your head, it's very comfortable. I've tried the Shoei Qwest and Arai Vector 2 and this fits about the same other than the on/off tightness.
Now the negative-it's loud at speed on the highway. I wasn't really prepared for how loud it is. I've never ridden with earplugs or my ipod on but I think I will now that I have this helmet. It's also kinda heavy when you have the shield and chinbar on. I've yet to ride without, it's still too cold for that, but you would shed a significant amount of weight by taking those things off.
All in all, I would recommend the helmet, you just have to be ok with having something pretty loud when riding at highway speeds.

The CL-16 was my 1st helmet that I bought after taking the class and buying my 1st bike. At the time, I wanted the cheapest, yet safest helmet I could find. Without a doubt, this is a great choice if that is what you are looking for. It is really round so I wear a small in this helmet even though I'm easily a medium in most other helmets, so keep that in mind. After riding for a few years now, I am looking for something lighter and with better airflow but this has been a great 1st helmet and I would definitely recommend it for those purposes.
