This is my second set of Stomp Grips (wreck and rebuild). You can not add a mod that delivers this much performance increase of any kind for this price. It doesn't make your machine go faster -it allows YOU to perform better, via added control of your machine. If you have never experienced the added comfort and bodily grip of using these then you are missing out on a much better and intimate motorcycling experience.
First let me say that even if you have ordered other Alpinestars protective apparel and you have read their sizing charts you STILL need to order at least one size LARGER.
That said, I am an even six feet tall, barefooted, ~180lbs-185lbs, with an inseam of 34 inches and a waist size of 32-34 inches. This puts me at a medium according to Astars. I also wear a size 54Euro (also a medium) in their SP-1 full one-piece leather suit, and it fits amazingly well. I originally ordered a medium based on all of this, despite all the warnings of previous reviews. When I tried them on they were indeed WAY too tight, especially in the crotch and around all the openings but the most at the leg cuffs. They would easily restrict blood flow to your legs in a short about of time. The rear of the waist also rides really low which was uncomfortable and left me wanting to pull them up constantly. I even tried them on under my SP-1 suit. I would like to say that I was afraid they wouldn't fit given the size of the protectors but it wasn't a problem at all, even in the crouching position. Those cuffs are just too tight and the rear was way too low.
After doing the exchange (thank goodness I ordered through Revzilla!) and receiving a pair one size larger I was very pleased with the fit and feel. They felt much better under the leathers too when crouching and moving around. The silicone lined cuffs are nice and keep the leg extentions in place, but without pulling hairs. It's nice to finally see such a feature that has been around in cycling shorts for a little while already.
I did have a chance to test these really well a few days after receiving them. I wore them for the entire one hour backseat car ride to one of the local ski resorts for a night of skiing after work. The tailbone protector did NOT bother me at all for the whole night, in the car there, riding the lifts, or riding home. I ended up having two really bad crashes that night too, both on the same run. The first was after a jump near the top of the mountain and the second was after catching my ski edge on some ice while trying to catch back up to the group. Both falls were bad enough that either one would have normally sent me limping-it down the mountain and on into the lodge for the rest of the night. Not only was I able to keep going without being in any pain after those back-to-back crashes but I was able to get back on the lift and go at it again.
My only complaints are that the rear of the top could still ride a little bit higher and, my only true complaint, is that a 'relief' pocket in the front crotch would be super nice. I don't know why this feature was discontinued. If it did have that, I would have chosen a five star rating.
IN SHORT: 1. This is a great product with some stellar protection. 2. Order a size up - at least. 3. Again, ORDER UP A SIZE. 4. Great for any activity where added hip, thigh, and tailbone protection would increase your enjoyment of that activity, i.e. motorcycling (road/track/dirt), mountain biking, snow-sports, etc.) 4. Last, but not least, Revzilla's return/exchange policy rocks!
