My Gerbings jacket liner (runs a little large, order a smaller size to keep it snug to your body) is not only the best way to stay warm on colder days riding, it provides an extra level of safety on those days as well.
I was 'warm enough' layering my gear and riding for the day throughout the winter months. After the receipt of my Gerbings jacket liner I am fully heated and can reduce the bulk of layering my gear.
The result is less bulk, more warmth and more safety due to being loose and ready for anything. This gear isn't only for the coldest months, it's for any chilled evening throughout the summer. Get it and add comfort and safety to your riding!

Heat in the seat?

Do these or another style or brand have heat in the seat? Riding my bike, my rear freezes in cold weather.
you could try a seat heater or sheepskin cover. Generally, stiff foam seats and certain types of seat top covers run cooler than others.

under or atop?

to put on these trousers under motor-trousers or atop?
Liners need to be near and snug to an undergarment (long underwear or other) this is the best placement to ensure heat transfer and safety from potential burns from heating elements. You don't want to have the heating elements next to bare skin, but need them under a protective gear layer.

Gerbing's Permanent Dual Temp Controller Two separate heat controllers in the same unit provide two separate heat controls for two different articles of heated clothing, such as for gloves and jacket liner Digital controllers insure that your heated clothing uses only as much power as requested Wires are UL listed and completely safe, in all weather conditions Three-Year Warranty Installs on any accessible panel (some drilling required) Includes complete mounting instructions Note Gerbing's changed the style of the extension cords included with the Temp Controller Kit. The kit now uses a 1 dual extension cord instead of 2 individual cords.

What all comes in the box?

Hi! I'd like to know what all comes in the box with the permanent dual zone controller.

I already own a jacket & gloves (and a portable controller), but with buying a new full fairing motorcycle, I'd like something more permanently mounted.

THanks!
I recently installed the permanent dual temp controller. everything you need to make the connection is in the box; from battery to garment. The instructions are also very clear on tools required to install including drill sizes. I'm totally satisfied with this product, it has exceeded all expectations.
