I have had the pants now for about a month and managed to put about 200 miles on them with both highway and commuting runs. I bought the shell only because I wanted something to wear over jeans for armor and extending my winter season.
Size: I wear a size 40w/30 inseam jean, sometimes a 42/32. I ordered a size 42 and it fit over my jeans comfortably. My only fit issue is that the pants have a high waist (reaches my navel), but the knee armor is very low. I had to put the knee armor at the highest velcro point I could, and wear the pants pulled all the way up - and I still have to pull the armor higher after I sit down on the bike. Once on the bike it is fine - but for me, the pants are not comfortable for walking around in much. They are fairly easy to get in and out of - I can do it with 13 inch work boots on as long as the lower leg zipper is open all the way.
Armor: the armor seems good overall, but I am worried about the lower leg zippers. It takes only a little pressure on the bottom of the leg and the zipper will open all the way back up again. I could see the lower velcro strap getting caught and pulling zipper completely open in a slide. I was hoping for some better closure, but since I wear them as overpants I can't say if having the inner liners would somehow take care of this problem.
Overall - a good value for the pricepoint, but I wish they had provided a more secure closure for the leg zippers.

Is it possible to put CE hip armor in these pants?
I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the hip pads in the pants to something CE rated
The armor plates themselves are in a sewn covering (the can be removed from the covering through a velcro slit in the material) and the covering is what attaches to the velcro of the shell. So, I would thinkg you could either replace the armor plates in the covering if the sizes are similar to CE rated armor, or you could just swap it out if you had CE rated armor that already had velcro to attach to the shell.

Is it possible to put hip armor, like knox or SAS-TEC, into these pants? Also, can the knee armor be upgraded?
Both the knee and hip armor are attached to the shell with velcro. Shell vs. Overpants
The Firstgear site shows them as different products with different deniers. Your site shows them with the same picture. Can you provide some clarification? Are these the HT overs without the "other stuff" or a different product all together.
The shell is the same as far as I can tell, the only difference is if you pay to get the liner + shell, or just the shell.
