This is the first pair of riding pants that I have owned. I wanted pants for winter riding since I don't own a car, live in PA and commute to work in all weather conditions, year round. I was mostly looking for CE protection, insulation and waterproof qualities. Style and price were second concerns.
Things I like about them. They are warm and windproof. I have not had a chance to try them out in a down pour yet but they have kept me dry and comfortable on a couple of chilly damp days with temps in the 30's. They have a good number of pockets. There are thighs vents that can be open or closed easily (while riding) and the quilted liner is removable so I will be able to wear them into the spring, fall and maybe even the summer. The material appears to be of good quality and the seams are well sewn.
The following features are things I wish were different about this pant but I don't dislike them enough to not use the pants or return when I initially purchased them. There are zippers at the ankles. These help with being able to lace up a higher boot but are not really long enough to be of much use otherwise. I wish they had 3/4 or full length side zips and would have been willing to pay more for that added feature on this specific pant. I also wish the waist adjustment was a bit more refined. When I cinch it in I am left with a lot of bulky fabric that doesn't sit well against my hips. Part of the reason for this is because I had to buy the size large in order to be able to wear these pants over my daily wear pants, which are usually fitted jeans. So, while this isn't the most comfortable fit, it fits well enough to stay in place and since I wear a longer cut, winter riding jacket it isn't noticeable and doesn't create a gap between jacket and pant. With a shorter cut jacket it might. I am thrilled to have the CE protection in the knees and padding in the hips however the material used for the knee is very hard and when you sit in the pant (as you do while riding) and the material is pulled tighter the protective knee pads press uncomfortably into my knee caps. I don't know that this would be an issue for every rider but it is for me. Because I wear pants underneath it is comfortable enough for me to continue to use the pants and if I take the quilted liner out there is more room and it isn't as uncomfortable.
I feel that the fit on these pants runs very small. I usually wear a 4 or a 6 size jean and small in most skirts, shorts, etc and I needed the large in this pant, but remember, I am wearing them over jeans.
My over all thought is that these pants have a good set of features and material for the price I paid and while I wish there were some different things about them, I would most likely need to pay more money for those additional features or fine tuned fit.
