I purchased the Pinlock lens and shield for my new Shoei Qwest. With the cold weather coming, I needed a good solution for visor fogging. I've tried various wipe-on products in the past, but wanted something that was more effective and that didn't need to be regularly reapplied. The Pinlock system does the trick. Whether it's cold or wet outside, or cold AND wet - no more fogging visor! No more need to crack the shield open at a traffic light to clear the mist!
What has also impressed me about the Pinlock system on the Shoei is that the visor insert extends to cover such a large area of the shield. The field of vision is great. The example pic doesn't do it justice.
Some have noted that under certain conditions that there can be some internal reflection artifacts, but I have gotten that even with non-Pinlock shields. As long as you are looking at the road instead of trying to look at the inner surface of the shield, you will not be bothered at all. The important thing is that there is no dangerous fogging to interfere with your vision.
I initially purchased a clear insert to go with the shield. It has worked so well for me that I have since purchased a dark smoke insert for those cold but sunny days.

Light leaks with Pinlock
Are most folks using the clear standard shield with the Pinlocker? How is the contrast between the two tints (unless you go clear-clear) in riding conditions?
I'm concerned about coverage around the edges 'flashing,' etc. Normally, I simply get a smoke shield, but the possibility of getting that same value with fog deterrent features using Pinlock sounds like a winner.

I got both the clear and dark smoke Pinlock inserts so I can have coverage for both overcast as well as sunny days. I would have preferred a shield in dark smoke to use with a clear Pinlock insert, but the dark smoke Pinlock shield is not yet available here in the US. The dark smoke Pinlock insert is very close in tint to the dark smoke non-Pinlock Shoei shield that I have.

is the fog free face shield also uv protected?
i have a rf-1100 with the original face shield. Its clear. I need a sunscreen shield with uv, so I can ditch the sunglasses because they cause pressure points, but I also have the problem with the fog.
It's my understanding the the CW-1 shields offer UV protection.

The picture of this shield doesn't match the shield for my Shoei Qwest... Is this the correct Pinlock shield to purchase for my Shoei Qwest?
The CW-1 is what fits the Qwest. It's exactly what I got for mine.
