Heidenau K60 Scout Rear Tire A true 50/50 dual sport tire, the K60 Scout brings a proven balance of performance on- and off-road. With an improved tread and compound, the Heidenau K60 Scout dual sport tires deliver better cornering stability and wet weather grip on the pavement, while delivering off-road as well. The chevron style tread pattern is similar to full knobby designs which provides lots of open space between the tread blocks to route sand, mud and water from the contact patch while constantly keeping some rubber in contact with the road as the tire rotates. This tire is a stand-out as it does not sacrifice on-road longevity and adhesion to the pavement for off-road traction. A difficult feat for any tire to accomplish. TL Tubeless TT Tube Type Tire Please Note Tire size 150/70 -17 has a solid, center band rather than the staggered tread pattern pictured (see below). First, I play in the dirt. A lot. If I see a dirt road or single-track, I'm hard-pressed to stay away. So, now that you know that I'm off-road a good bit, you can now take my review with the proverbial grain of salt.
I love these tyres. I came off a set of Avon Distanzias and they were pretty good on the road but didn't have the tread depth or pattern I was needing. I got used to them, but I needed more. The Heidenaus answered the call. I had heard a good bit about them before I made the final decision so it made sense when I finally did.
First, the tread pattern has a great balance of road/dirt capability. Surprisingly good grip on the road. I mean, I was really surprised. I was taking turns much tighter with these than the Avons allowed and with no complaining. At highway speeds, they are disciplined and predictable until one get up to about 80mph (130kph). Then they can get a little floaty. Not scary or dangerous at all. And besides, I ride a thumper so I don't normally get up in that end of my speedometer. Great on dirt, ok in the mud, sand isn't awesome but they're not sand tires. They sneak around a lot as is to be expected.
Secondly, I've got roughly 5000 miles on the set and the rear has a slight flattening and the front doesn't appear to have worn at all. Really. I'm rather amazed. These things seem to be made of some sort of space-age iron/kevlar/titanium/neverwearanium alloy or something.
As far as wet traction goes, I ride all the time; rain/shine/etc. and have never gotten a complaint from these shoes.
So, considering all the above, I would recommend these to anyone with a DS. I saw a set pulled off an '04 BMW R1150GS and they supposedly had ~11000+ miles on them and there was still a decent amount of meat left on them. Now, the owner apparently did mostly highway but still...11,000 miles? Impressive. The way mine are going thus far, I expect to have about 9-10,000 before I have to change.

Tubeless tires with tube-type rim
I'm considering the Heidenau K60 Scouts for my Triumph Tiger 800XC. The issue is that in the appropriate size (150/70-15 rear and 90/90-21 front) the K60's are tubeless ["TL" designation in the part number], whereas my rims require innertubes.
My question: Is it OK to run tubeless tires with tubes?

I have done so several times. There's no problem with doing so. I will say, though, that you should NOT go with the thick, super-puncture resistant tubes meant for off-road use only (like motocross, etc). They will hold heat and cause failures at extended highway speeds...or so I've been told. Just a precaution to consider.
