I was looking for some riding shoes that offer decent protection and are comfy and stylish because I commute to work alot. Mission accomplished with these TCX, but they do have a few flaws.
Pros:
They look great.
They are actually boots - more substantial than just shoes and have good protection in the heel & ankle.
They are relatively flexible and comfortable to walk around in.
They look great.
Sticky sole holds very well to my pegs on my Harley's forward controls (so far#. I was a bit concerned about this.
They look great.
Cons:
The strap-on toe protector is worthless - I've had these about a week and the elastic is already about to break #and I take the thing off when I'm not riding#. They need something on the left toe, so how about a piece that slips through the bottom lace? Velcro? Anything? This brings me to the next con:
The toe box is very weak, barely anything there. Without the toe protector, I suspect the left toe will scuff up and cave in.
The insoles are questionable - I will likely replace mine soon, but I didn't expect much here because these are modeled after Chuck Taylors.
No way to tuck the laces away. The shoes run wide, so after adjusting them for my foot #which is not narrow), they hang pretty long when tied. I may have to cut them off. Not a biggie, but a velcro or elastic holder would be a great feature.
No loop at the back of the shoe. Since they have the waterproof inners, they require some effort to slip on; would be nice to have a loop to pull them over my heel with.
Fit:
One size large for me. I am a solid 10.5, so I ordered the 10's based on other reviews. I would say they fit slightly larger than a 10.5, almost to an 11, and are wide enough to accomodate a W foot size.
All that said, I would buy them again and will probably try to rig my own fastener for the toe protector. But for the price tag they could have done better with some of the peripherials, particularly the toe box.
Yes, I recommend this product.
