The Nolan N43 Trilogy is and amazingly versatile helmet. It has fantastic visibility and features like the removable chin bar, a sunshade, included visor, included pin-lock insert, and extra padding insert for the chin bar.
Pros: Light, Included Removable Chin Bar, Included Pin lock Insert, Included Sun Shade, Included Visor, Awesome Visibility, Communication Ready, Great Value
Cons: Poor Single Vent, Sun Shade does not come down far enough, ear area not carved for glasses wearers.
Other: Noisy, but it is not a Full Face Helmet so that is to be expected.
I bought this helmet because I was riding with a 3/4 helmet with face shield and want a bit more protection and something that would be a bit warmer in the colder months. I tried several true full face helmets but could not get used to squeezing my head through the bottoms. So I then went with modular helmets, but could not find the right fit comfort and I couldn't stand the limited visibility, it gave me a too enclosed feeling. I finally tried the Nolan N43 Trilogy since I already had a 3/4 helmet and loved the fit, ease of getting it on / off, and this one has a removable chin bar for added protection.
This thing works as advertised, the helmet is comfortable, good looking, and feature rich. The sun shade is a dark smoke and moves freely. The chin bar is easily removed and replaced. The outer visor is clear, and comes with a pin lock insert that keeps fog off your shield and works very well. I ended up buying a silver mirrored shield for privacy and some sun protection. The detents and very good for ventilation, and the outer visor moves in a very smooth and firm motion for the various detents.
Now for some complaints.... the sun visor while has a very smooth operation, does not come down far enough for my liking. It comes down far enough for you to look through it, but in your lower peripheral you can see where it stop which is a bit annoying. The top vent is singular, small, and does not seem to vent all that much, but this is not really a problem since the nature of the helmet is that it's not totally wind sealed like a full face, so you still get ventilation. Next, the inner liner, while very comfortable, would benefit from some more ear space. I ride with earbuds in and sometimes this pressure combined with my glasses makes my ears uncomfortable and requires me to move the helmet a bit to get blood to my earlobes. This however, is not a problem if you do not wear glasses and ear buds at the same time. Finally, the chin bar. It is fantastic, but this helmet is very round and I found that my chin is presses right up against the chin bar. While this is not a deal breaker and it is also not uncomfortable, it makes for a very tight fit up front. The one positive thing to this fit is that when wind starts to grab the helmet your chin helps stabilize the movement. There is a liner that comes with the helmet that attaches to the chin bar for comfort and to act as a wind curtain. I have yet to try it but I looks as comfortable as the rest of the lining.
In summary, this helmet has tons of features, options, and toys. Is communication ready (comm system not included) and work VERY well for someone who wants more protection than a traditional 3/4 helmet but can't stand the fishbowl feeling of a full face.
