I've waited two and a half weeks to write this review to give revzilla users a useful account of how this helmet fares in different types of weather and the Bay Area weather gods did not disappoint by giving us 80+ degree temps as well as some rain showers to test my new helmet in. I have owned other helmets for the last 15 years and am pleased to note that the quality with sub-two hundred dollar helmets has greatly exceeded my expectations. The interior is not as plush as other high-end helmets but I can hardly feel the difference once it's on (much like contact lenses, once they're on you can't notice). The finish on the matte black is great. I'm not a paint guy but I can't tell any blemishes or gaudy defects blaring at me from the shell. The internal visor is awesome! Not only do you not have to change shields in the middle of the day (or on a ride) but the field of vision with the internal shield encompasses a large portion of my riding focal points. The internal shield actuator is also very easy to find with gloves on. Riding in the rain, the main shield does a good job of sealing itself to the shell to not let any of the outside precipitation into the inside of the shield. The shield also provides pretty even optics through it from side to side viewing. Riding in the rain, the shield does a good job of beading the water up towards the top of the helmet and off the back. I've also ridden in very foggy conditions and the shield is somewhat fog resistant but can easily be remedied by actuating the chin vent or the vent position on the shield lock. The front chin vent really does a good job of venting air into the helmet evidenced by the wind noise present when the vent is opened. The top vents are fairly easy to manipulate with gloves on and provide ample flow of air during warm-ish (80+) days going freeway speeds. I noted that the helmet was slightly loud but this is strictly a nitpick since I ride with earplugs in. I don't mind the slight noise that the vents cause when opened because I've ridden with noisier race helmets. My only gripe with this helmet is the small shield lock. The shield lock doesn't have any positive position placement, other than the vent position, and moves from unlocked to the locked position with freeway-speed winds blowing over it, which isn't really a bad thing but you have to remember that it does that and you need to unlock it before you open the shield at the next stoplight after the freeway exit - otherwise you're trying to open a locked face shield. The EXO-500 is a great helmet with fantastic features (that are useful for the commute) that I'm glad to use everyday as a replacement for my older helmet that cost twice as much and didn't offer as many features (for the commuter).

I've looked into getting protection under my street clothes and i wanted serious energy displacement in case of a get-off. Not only are forcefield armor super comfortable and ultra energy dispersing, they fit under my boot cut levis pretty much unoticeably. Am looking to purchase the pro shirt in the near future.

Have any intermediate ovals tried the EXO-500? How does it feel?
According to all of the literature and videos I've been frequenting, this helmet is about medium round/meant for those with a somewhat rounder-shaped head. Has anyone with an intermediate oval head tried on/own this helmet? How does it feel compared to helmets that are meant for intermediate ovals? Is there a major difference? Thank you.
I have worn Arai Quantums for the last 14 years and have just recently started using the EXO-500 as a replacement commuting helmet and I can say that after 3 weeks of use, this helmet fits about as oval as my Arai Quantum on my 60-mile round trip commute.
