I purchased this to fit into the Klim Traverse coat. It fits perfectly. It's fairly heavy, but as a result stays put against your back and doesn't flap around in the wind when all of your coat vents are open. The ridges all along the inside (side that touches your body) of the pad help to keep airflow moving and prevent getting uncomfortable from a big slab of rubber against your back.

Before reviewing this coat I waited a month, in which time I put over 2,000 miles on my bike. I've had the coat in temperate weather (where it's perfect), rain (where I stayed dry), and 112 degree heat (where I needed more vents). The only way to move air around your chest/arms is to unzip the front. I would have liked to have seen a zipper on each side of the upper chest.
Then again, this is Klim's entry level coat and bang for the buck it's fantastic. The best thing is the mesh liner that keeps the sealed Gore-Tex off of your skin in the heat. Also, the pocket for the back pad keeps it in place nicely as you're riding, even with the vents open.
All in all, great coat and I would buy it again if given the choice.

Can this be cut to fit any size/brand back pocket? Firstgear jackets have small protectors.
If you were to use a SHARP utility knife and lay your pattern out on top of the pad, it could be cut to fit. I would first trace your pattern on the back side, as it's smooth and a better writing surface, and then cut accordingly.
