This is a difficult product to rate. Because the Airhawk involves riding comfort and there is a lot of variance anatomically between different riders, it's going to work for some and not for others. It didn't work for me and did not alleviate the tailbone pain from the stock Vulcan 900 Classic seat it was placed on.
That said, I feel like adding the Airhawk to that seat (for me) was like trying to build a great house on a lousy foundation. Because the underlying seat is so uncomfortable (for me) it would have been a miracle for the Airhawk to have turned in into a comfortable seat. I tried though, just on the off chance it might have worked.
The bang-for-the-buck rating relates specifically to my situation, the Airhawk is somewhat expensive (for a pad) and since it didn't work for me there's very little return on invest. If it works for you the BFTB will be quite high.
In spite of reviews you'll just have to try one to see if it does what you want or expect. The quality of the unit is very good and installation is easy, in that regard it gets a thumbs up from me so it's worth trying in my opinion.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Would this fit a Yamaha Fz6 well? It seems more cruiser oriented...

I'm not personally familiar with the Fz6 but I looked at some photos. Since the Airhawk R model is shaped a bit like a tractor seat it would seem pretty wide for the Fz6 seat.

After riding on the Airhawk it's my impression that it wouldn't work very well if it wasn't completely supported across its base. That's because of the way the air chambers interconnect. I think if the edges of the Airhawk protruded past the edges of your bike seat that it would be uncomfortable and not very supportive. It could also seem to shift around (as the air moved between chambers) and this could potentially be unsettling on a sport bike in more spirited riding.

Can i make it fit a passanger seat of an r1?

Hi,

In my opinion the answer would be "no". The Airhawk-R is shaped kind of like a tractor seat and intended, as best I can tell, for cruiser style (or at least wide seat) bikes. I think if you tried to wrap the R model around the sides of the seat you'd loose the effectiveness of the thing.

They may have other models that would fit an R1 but not this one in particular.

Q on a custom seat.

Is there a way to upholster it under leather for a custom seat.
In my opinion it could be done on the right bike and by a talented seat maker.

First you'd need to measure your current seat to see if the dimensions are close to what you have or would work with your bike since I see no way to alter the shape of the Airhawk (nor would you likely want to).

Your seat maker would need to allow for access to the air valve (small zipper or such) but it's going to be a bit awkward given it's location (rear left corner of pad). You'd likely need to find a rubber or vinyl tube that would slip onto the mouthpiece of the air valve since trying to get to in mounted on the bike would be "interesting" to say the least.

I think you need to ride with it and get it adjusted to you before having the seat made so you'd know what thickness you're dealing with (since it quite variable by the rider). ROHO, the manufacturer, recommends about 1/2" of air but it's really up to you.

Potentially the most difficult part would be not having the cover on the seat restrict the Airhawk since it's designed to move air around as you move or shift in your seat. That means a traditional cover of vinyl or leather could really restrict things, especially if pulled taut to get all the wrinkles out.

Also, the Airhawk has mesh sides on its cover to allow airflow in and around the air chambers to eliminate hot spots. This would be kind of tricky to incorporate into a seat but the right seat maker could probably do it.

Bottom line, I think it could be done but it will be quite the challenge and likely expensive since it will take a really experienced and talented seat maker to get it right. I'd suggest getting one and riding on it for a bit to see if it "does it" for you. If it doesn't you can take advantage of the return policy.

Good luck.
