I got this to replace the foam insert that came with my new kathmandu jacket. The rest of the jacket has d3o armor so i just went with the flow.
Pros:
1. The original insert offered no protection. Its a great fit and no trimming was needed.
2. It breaths well
3. You can hardly tell its there after it forms to your back while riding.
Cons:
1. Part of the mold was torn off, about 1inch for the wavy layer. I guess it was a defect but i doubt it will harm the protection.
Yes, I recommend this product.

This is a comfortable jacket with good air flow. It runs a tad large but has a lot of straps to customize the fit. The only problem i had was with the water bladder. If I'm riding for a bit the bladder will eventually pull further and further back until it starts to choke me. Then i have to pull the jacket forward. I may have to remove it completely.
The phone pocket is pretty big and fits my iPhone with its double protection case very snugly. If it didn't have the case it would probably drop right in. Most of the time i just put it in the side pocket for easy access to look at maps.
The ventilation is pretty good. I was driving around on the road yesterday in 85 degree heat and it wasn't too bad.
The back protector needs to be replaced though its very cheap. I replaced it with Klim Viper T5 D30 Back Protector and it fits great.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Can this be cut to fit any size/brand back pocket? Firstgear jackets have small protectors.

Worked in my FirstGear Kathmandu jacket. 2xl

What d3o and CE back armor is available for upgrade?

Vidio says CE and d30 are available but I don't see a Firstgear product and am not sure about the fit of others.
Klim Viper T5 D30 Back Protector works great. It forms to your body and you barely know its there. Fits great in the jacket.

What pants would be complimentary to this jacket?

Firstgear HT Air Overpants. There are many out there but i got the 2010 model. Has a zipper in the back to connect to your jacket. Its not supper great protection but better the jeans. I usually wear shorts underneath.
