These boots are comfortable right from the start. They do fit on the small side though, problem solved by wearing thinner socks.

What's the max opening at the top?
I have tree-trunk calves...
I've had the same challenge with boots in the past. Hard to measure opening because it's tapered and could be larger for bigger sizes, but my calves are 15 1/2" and size 43 works fine for calves, even over suit, because of the velcro flap feature.

Are these "mid shin" boots? What is their height in inches?
10 1/2 inches at back and 11 inches at front.

Dainese TRQ-Tour Gore-Tex Boots
I usually wear a shoe size of 9.5 US. I noticed in the sizing chart skips from 9 to 10 what size would be recommended for these boots?
I wear size 10 and the 43 is on the small side for me, but might be perfect for you.
