Bell RS-1 Gearhead Helmets The Bell RS-1 Gearhead Helmet comes in either a red/black or black/white color scheme. Regardless of the color you choose, the graphic on this lid has depth and detail and a high level of reflectivity. Part of the Bell RS-1 Helmet line, the Gearhead bridges the gap between the top-of-the-line Bell Star and the value-minded Vortex with an amazing blend of mid-line price and high-end performance. The shell is a lightweight Kevlar/fiberglass composite making this helmet lighter than both the Star and the Vortex. The fit is a race fit, so more snug but still very comfortable due to the Contour Cut Cheekpads and a plush, removable, washable liner. Packed with features, its one great helmet at a modest price. I personally love this helmet. What fully sold me on the Bell over the Shoei RF1100 was the option of the SolFX transitions face shield. -- (that shield is awesome!!) -- However, I am very happy i went with the RS-1. Bell put a great attention to detail on this helmet; from the very comfortable shape, to the well placed air vents, to the material of the inner padding. The padding shows what buying a more expensive helmet brings, it's incredible soft and feels and works like temperpedic memory foam.
Little details are nice as well, such as the recessed portion of the lining by the ear to place a bluetooth speaker, and the magnet on the chin strap as opposed to the clip.
Also, the graphic on the GEARHEAD helmet looks incredible in person. the photos don't do it justice. it looks great, and i get complimented on it all the time.
It's relatively light, and everything about it says quality. I highly recommend this helmet.

I love this product. When I was shopping around for a new helmet, I actually chose a Bell (chose the RS-1, love it) solely being that the SolFX was made exclusively for Bell helmets.
I was really excited to try this lens, and I have to say, it met all my expectations. I'm very happy with it. The anti-fog works well, and the transition feature works quickly and functions great. It's definitely pricey for a shield, but well worth it.
I can't imagine going back to carrying spare shields with me and swapping them out at the end of the day.

Has Bell resolved the leaking seal between the helmet and the faceshield?
I have read that the Bell RS-1 seal around the eye port does not completely seal the gap between the faceshield and the helmet allowing water to leak inside the helmet, has Bell fixed this issue?
I purchased a 2012 model RS-1 back in march, i have had no issues with the shield. it blocks air and water very well. It sucks up nicely to the helmet.

Could my visor be defective?
I purchased this visor with my Bell RS1 and it fogged right away on its first use and still fogs up. Could it be defective?
Try rinsing it gently with warm water and a little hand soap applied with your finger.. then dab it dry with a soft cloth, and give it a rub with a micro fiber .

Durability of shield?
How durable is this shield? The clear shield that came with my RS1 is getting pretty crazy pitted/scuffed after only about 2k miles of riding. I'd love one of these transitions shields but I cannot justify dropping this much if it's only going to last half a year.
I have been using my SolFX shield on my RS-1 since march, so only about 3 months now -- but so far they are showing no wear and they work very well. They are actually fairly scratch-proof as well. I bumped the shield into things a couple of times now (and kicked myself every time), and anything that looked like a scratch rubbed right out with a micro fiber cloth.
i have a great deal of confidence in the shield overall -- and also, it is not manufactured by BELL, it's contracted but aftermarket
