These Forcefield shorts offer the most protection I've ever found in any under armor. If you're looking for maximum padding then these are for you. The pads are very thick, double layers of material, and bulky because they cover more of your lower body than others do. The odds are against your landing on a spot that is unprotected. When you first pick them up you'll be surprised by the weight but you don't notice it when you put them on. You will notice the thickness, almost diaper like, so make sure you have plenty of room in your riding pants. The pads conform well to your contours, it's just that there is much more to them than other shorts offer.
You'll also notice the smell immediately. All Forcefield armor smells pretty bad when new but it goes away fairly soon. My Forcefield rib protector took a few months but that's a much larger chunk of their rubber and not wrapped in any fabric like these shorts.
Many reviewers of these shorts have said they run large but I don't agree. I fit either a med or large depending on the product so I ordered a med on the previous posters advise and they're too small on me. I like a loose fit and wear 36" jeans but often buy med in other clothing. I had to send these back, the medium was uncomfortably tight around my waist.
If you're looking for the most protection you can get then these are for you. Forcefield uses High Tech Materials that are superior to what most other companies offer. If you hit something with bone breaking force you need more than a thin piece of foam.

I have a Medium and it's a true fit, 5'9 & 170 lbs. The fabric is a little stiff but still comfortable enough. It weighs 2 lbs 2 ounces and conforms under a coat so you don't look or feel inflated. I've seen pictures of it worn covering both the front and the back, Revzilla shows it worn on the back. I wear it covering my chest, it wraps around the ribs better that way. I bought it because nothing else gives good side protection and that's where I've busted bones twice, the last time gave me a week vacation in the hospital with a tube in my chest. You might want to add a back protector, or a chest protector depending on which way to wear it. In either case you will be left with something not covered. But the other gear, suits, and harnesses that covers both chest and back never adequately protect your sides, except the rodeo vests that the bull riders wear.

Can the Forcefield Rib Protector be worn in reverse as a chest protector?

- Is the armor in this item the same as the Force Field chest protector?
- How much does it weigh?
- If worn in reverse, can it snap with the Elite, or only a back protector?
I have one and you can wear it either way. As a chest protector it gives better wrap around to your sides and rib cage. I have broken ribs twice by falling on my elbow, this way it will pad you from that. As a back protector it comes only part way around your ribs, leaving you exposed if you face plant. Worn by itself it obviously doesn't cover everything, but chest and back protectors don't ever protect your sides. It's a little stiff but still comfortable and lite, my Med weighs 2 lbs.
