Just got the jacket and there are two things that really bother me about it straight out of the bag.
The first are the way the liner sleeves are attached to the inside of the jacket. I tried it on twice. The first time, my arms tried to pull the sleeves back through the jacket. The second time they succeeded. Sleeves for the liner are now inside out, because they followed my hands all the way up, requiring me to put the jacket back together. If I'm careful, and reach up the sleeve and hold the liner while I'm taking off the jacket, it comes out ok. Still, I found this a poor design point and do hope they improve it with more/better tack down points for the liner sleeves.
The second is the collar. Maybe it's because the jacket is stiff right now, but there's this huge swatch of velcro for the tack down point and I can't get anywhere near it. I'm at the VERY edge of the tack down point and it doesn't stay there, while I'm in the house trying it on! Hope I can get it to stay closed while riding.
Related to both of these things is the over use of velcro over the jacket. I'm upgrading from a cheap leather jacket (half the cost of this one) and as far as I'm concerned, it was better in both these regards. My current leather jacket uses zippers, or tab buttons, to lock down things and it works well for that. The inner liner has velcro for the sleeve lock down, but it's locked down in multiple areas, and in the 5 years I've had it, I've never pulled the sleeves out while wearing it, and it never occurred to me it would happen with this one until I tried it on. On the plus side, the new jacket I like better for its lightness. I was very surprised when I got it at how light it really was.
The jacket offers several positives, which is why I'll keep it, and why I ordered it to begin with. It offers great protection, with all the armor, durable cloth, and otherwise good construction. I'm 6'3", 200 pounds and the jacket, in size large, is roomy on me. I can actually layer under it with a heavy fleece for cold weather riding. Well, roomy everywhere but the neck, where it seems a little tight with the not being able to close it properly. It's actually long enough, too, to go over the overpants I wear. I got the hi vis yellow, and it's very bright. It should really stand out in these cold gray Maine days, which is really why I wanted it.
I'm sure I'll adapt to the two points I've already mentioned. Maybe the jacket will soften up a bit and allow me to close it better, and the sleeves I can just get into the habit of hold while removing the jacket. I do understand now, though, why I never saw any pictures of a rider with a closed collar!

Is this a true cold weather jacket?

I live and ride in Maine. I ride in the winter, too. There's little detail on how good the thermal insert is. A little more info here would help, Thank you! if if you would not recommend this jacket for winter riding in Maine (will be using at least 3 season, and 4 season if it vents well, as well), please recommend one that does better in the same price range. I'm looking for a high visibility one, too, so it should come in yellow, if possible. I'm replacing a black leather jacket.
