These are my first foray into motorcycle boots. Always in the past I've just made due with sundry off the shelf hiking or work boots. I wanted something I could walk around in comfortably without looking like I was jumping out of a plane or coming back from the barn. I also needed something waterproof as I ride in all conditions and wearing those Wal-Mart bag booties takes a pretty large hit in the style department.
These boots were recommended to me by several people including the staff of RevZilla. I had never tried any on so this was a leap of faith. (Backed up by an excellent return policy) I wear between a 7-1/2 and an 8 US depending on the manufacturer so I went with the 40 EURO based on the size chart and the salespersons recommendation. Unfortunately they don’t stock that size so the boots had to be direct shipped from Italy. I was informed it would take several weeks to get them to the States.
I was pleasantly surprised when I got notice in about a week that the boots would be arriving via UPS. Imagine my disappointment when I tried to slide them on I couldn’t even get my foot into the boot. Believe me I tried. I called RevZilla and talked to a salesperson who seemed as shocked as I was. My kids laughed, it looked like I was trying on a child’s boot. So based on the description of my dramatic ill fit the salesperson recommended I jump a full shoe size to the US 9. Ironically they stocked that size so I had my second pair in about three days.
This time the boot went on without a problem. The fit and finish are excellent. These boots look more like fine Italian shoes than motorcycle armor. At least for now, these look good enough that I have worn them to a nice dinner and could wear them for semi-formal events like weddings. The leather is soft yet I think it will be durable. The shifter pads are well placed and the Skywalker sole is comfortable enough to walk around in. I have large calves and had concerns about this taller boot not fitting well. The upper is well designed and tapered to fit my leg just fine.
I have about 48 hours wearing the boots now, with about 4 hours of that riding in the rain. My impressions are that this is a very dry boot. It does get warm especially when not riding but it is not uncomfortable. You will want to wear long socks. It’s nice to walk in even for hours at a time. If these were offered in a 9-1/2 I might have gone up that half size. They are snug on me now, but I wouldn’t want them sloppy loose either.
In summary, these are nice boots. I found they run small in size. They are nice and dry but can get a little warm. They are exceptionally nice looking and will work well for sport/touring but I don’t think I would choose these for adventure/off-road riding. Time will tell how the side zippers and Velcro will hold up, but I have great expectations.

How tall is the Fulcrum?
My size 9's are 12-1/2 inches from the ground to the highest part of the upper at the shin. The soles varies from about an inch at the heel to 1/2 inch under the toe.

Is the insole removable?
I would like to be able to replace the stock insole with the Gerbing heated insoles during cold, winter rides.
The insoles are removable, but as warm as these boots are unless you are riding in extreme temps I'm not sure you will need the electric insoles. Wool socks might be enough to keep your feet warm.
