This jacket is great for the warmer weather as far as air flow goes, but it's got a lot of black - which is hot. Until Olympia comes out with a 100% mesh "shirt" for summer riding - This is going to be my summer jacket. I wish it were white (or light grey) with neon yellow accents, not mostly black and neon-yellow. White is not as hot as black.
There are a few things I modified. There is a waist strap/flap with a snap on it that was pointless - so I sliced it off. The pants-zipper thing on the back side was hot, it bunched, & also useless for my summer riding purposes. So I sliced that off too. The wrist velcro is also short, and comes open very easily, so I have wrist straps flapping down the road on more than one occasion. Also - my biggest beef is the neck rides too high, and gets caught on my helmet chin strap, and the velcro on it scrapes the heck out of my neck/chin. I simply zip it up about mid-chest & fold the neck down on the front side into a "V" shape.
I'm not sure the logic of making the neck a Mandarin neck for a summer jacket. Completely unnecessary. The first 2 times I road, I had a big ol' scrape on my chin/neck from the jacket collar that I didn't ride the next day until it healed a bit.
I might cut that off that neck flap - too - but it would leave a jagged edge where it was visible.
Overall, I like the jacket, but not as good as I like my AST2 from Olympia.
I might take out the elbow padding and back padding and shoulder padding - if that gets too hot. We shall see. I mainly want it for abrasion protection, not impact protection.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I needed a cold & rain pair of pants that I could put over my bluejeans for my commute to and from school. I wanted a zipper up each leg so I can get in and out of them without taking off my boots, as I usually remove and don the pants in a parking garage or bathroom stall at school. The zipper is beefy, and easy to feel. I haven't snagged it going up or down, either leg. I bought them to be extra big for easier on and off. They are comfy, warm, and dry. I wear a size 38 bluejeans under the liner and the pants (size 44). I added a patch of velcro on the belt, since the pants are really too big on purpose. When it stops being cold, I'll take them to the seamstress and get the legs hemmed. Right now - I just use the velcro at the bottom and cinch it up tight so it doesn't fall over my boot. Great pant. I will probably swim in them in the summer with the liner out, since I am a 38 and got a 44...but I don't really plan on wearing these in the summer all that much.
I also like that there is a reflective spot on the knee area and piping down the side. You can never bee too seen when battling minivan soccer moms and cell phone dads.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Both Revzilla and The Gerbing Company has been very helpful regarding this product. I was investigating if the battery on my scooter (Genuine Buddy 125) would handle the power required for the gloves using the 12v plug on the dash. It won't. BUT, there is an alternative Gerbing glove in the Core Heat using the 7volt rechargeable batteries. For non-highway speeds most smaller scooters go, that product will be fine to keep your hands warm.

I usually wear a men's small/medium and a women's large glove. My hand measurements are 7 3/4"diameter at widest part of palm in a spread-finger high five position. 3 1/4" from edge of table with thumb bent over edge - to the outside of my palm. I ordered a small/medium and these fit nicely with a little stretch in the fingers length. I put them on a second time and they fit nicely. These will fit inside my summer riding gloves for early fall, and inside my winter gloves for really cold weather. They seem well constructed and the wrist is a different, soft, flat band that doesn't bunch up under the top glove binding.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I am competing on the road against cellphone-texting-makeup-coffee drivers and the like, so I was looking for a hiviz jacket to wear on my scooter for some time now. I commute in the city, surface streets only. I need to be seen.
I usually order men's jackets because women's clothing never goes large enough to fit me. The Euro sizing never fits right, and the men's lack hip room, but come large enough that I can usually make it work - after a trip to the seamstress.
The Olympia Women's AST 2 Jacket is the first women specific clothing item I have purchased in a long time. I read the comments on the site on recommended products & I watched the videos on this site, on sizing and winter riding gear. He said the Olympia brand is sized for bigger Americans. Well - that got my attention.
I am short and stocky, 47" hips, 40" waist, 38 1/2" armpit-chest, 45" bust, 18" shoulder,16" neck, 61 1/2" fingertip-fingertip, add 27" spine-elbow-wrist. I give you my measurements so you can compare to your measurements and the size I ordered - a women's XXL - which I would not have done based on my past experience, but did so based on my measurements and their measurement chart. I am highly recommending you get the cloth measuring tape and give yourself a good set of measurements and use your chart. The hips are tight, but fit, and the upper body is very loose in the parts that need to be loose for comfort, but there are tons of adjustments.
I ride a scooter, so there will be no electric warming clothing for me - it's all layers. This jacket will keep my upper body warm. I love the pockets, styling, and hi viz. I will wear this all winger long. I'll check back after a few rides at night, rain, and as it gets even colder to let you know on the performance.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Update to my previous evaluation
Posted December 9, 2011
1. I commented that a zipper pull snapped off. It is fixed. All I needed to do was use line up the thread and re-snap the plastic cap. It looks like it wasn't snapped properly from the start, but it's fine now.
2. I have ridden in the cold and rain, heavy rain, and at night. This AST2 worked like a champ. I was dry and warm. I do not ride highway speeds, so I only speak about 30-45mph functionality.
3. The weather in GA this fall is fluctuating considerably more than normal. is freezing (30's at night) then (78's) in the afternoon. I rode in the afternoon, with the liner out, and ALL the vents open and was very vented & cool. I must not have had all the vents open when I opened them and rode in the warmer weather the first time I rate this jacket with the vents.
4. I attached a few pictures of the reflective piping, shown with a flash. And some notes on the picture. The HiViz color option has probably already helped me avoid Mrs. Distracto in the SUV texting her 9 year old she's on her way to pick him up from soccer practice. She was pulling into my lane, traveling in the same direction, and I waved quickly and watched her drop her cell phone & straighten up.

Will the men's pants fit the women's AST2 jacket?

Does the zipper on these men's pants go the same direction in the mensAST2 and the women's AST2 jackets? Or does Olympia do a women's one way and a men's the other directions?

sizing for over pant?

When sizing as an over pant, would you order one size higher than your normal pants size? for example regularly wear a 18 in pants, order an 20 for over pants?

Can the Gerbing's pant liner be hemmed?

I have to get every pants I ever buy hemmed, even women's cuts. If short lengths are available, I just have less to hem. Can you hem these pants liners without interfering with the electrical and heating elements? If hemming is not an option, can they be folded up and will that double heat my ankles?

How much does this jacket weigh?

I have the women's Kilimanjaro jacket now, it's really heavy.
I have the AST2 and this jacket is substantially lighter. I have a review to post in the next 2 days. it's got good air flow & is mesh in a lot of the jacket, but the impact zones. So that impact zones add the weight. It weighs the same as two heavy hoodies.

What are the differences between the original AST jacket and the new AST 2?

The AST is an older model, so size and color selection are less. I have the AST in Hi-Viz yellow and love the black accents don't make it look like a construction worker jacket, but I'm still visible. Also the AST2 has reflective spots incorporated into the design - so it's less construction vest like. On the AST2, there are many features that make it easy to wear, get to pockets, vents, and cinch around your waist to slow up-drafts but let out a little if wearing more underclothes. I recommend it highly.

Givi E470 Simply Monolock Top Case Do you need a good sized case for your scooter It is difficult to compete with the E470. New on the market this case offers 47 liters, the maximum offered in the Monolock range. Aesthetically pleasing and adaptable to low and medium powered motorcycles, the E470 offers the novelty of a removeable painted cover mounted on the top shell, an aesthetic refinement which used to be exclusive to the Monokey range. The wide reflector on both sides of the top shell increases the riders safety after twilight. Features 12.7 X 16.7 X 21.8 47 liter capacity Max load 6.6 lbs All monolock cases include universal plates

Topcase for vespa

I'm looking for the biggest, best quality topcase suitable for a vespa lx150 scooter with a rear rack. I'm especially looking at the Givi e470 monolock case. Is that a reasonable choice? or what is?
More than a 36L is going to look like a luggage rack that has a scooter attached to it, instead of the reverse. But, if Givi makes a scooter specific mount for it - go for it. But also remember the bigger the top case, the more you'll want to put into it and extra weight is going to effect performance and gas milage. Scooters get great gas milage but the more stuff that's added, the more they start getting motorcycle gas milage. I'm on a Genuine Buddy 125 and I use a 29L. I'd like bigger, but it just wouldn't look right.

I have a Kymco People 200S scooter-I want a topcase to carry groceries. Is a GIVI E470 too big for it?

What size of a top case is recommended or common for the KYMCO PEOPLE 200S scooter
I ride a Genuine Buddy and have a Shad SH-29, which means 29 liter capacity. I too would like bigger, but it just doesn't look right to put a bigger one on there.

The GIVI E470 is 47 liter capacity - quite a bit bigger. On Kymco people - from what I remember of them in the shop, they are a tad bigger than the Buddys, but not much, and you have a 200, and I only have a 125, so you might be able to go a bit bigger on the top case. The GIVI E470 seems quite big for a little scooter, though, in terms of look and carrying capacity. Keep in mind, what you put in a top case can cause instability during the ride and the parking.

Givi E30 or E36 are probably a better bet, just based on a size analysis. If you need more luggage space - consider some side "saddle bag" type - but again, too much weight on the back of the scooter, and high, can cause unstable rides. (See related products below).

Also, I do not like my Shad SH-29 because it bends out of shape too often, making it hard to close. I fill it with a small backpack with a couple of dictionary sized books and a notebook for school. Much more than that, and it just doesn't fit.

is there a true difference in cut and fit between men's and woman's jacket?

Need a true woman's cut do to body style so I want to make sure it is cut different versus a men's cut with masked with woman's sizing.
I am short and stocky and NEVER order women's sizes in anything. I made an exception here with this Women's cut. I did not try on the men's cut. I got a measuring tape and did all the measurements suggested. I spoke with the Olympia folks via email as well. I too was very concerned it was just masked/fake women's sizing but really the same cut as mens. I can tell you that this jacket fits me like a glove, except for the elbow straps, They are a little loose if I take the liner out. There are hip gussets that allowed me to get the jacket zipped easily up the front, but around my "female sized hips" :-). That is always my problem with the men's cuts. My waist is smaller than my hips, and my chest is larger than waist & hips - so I really felt like I needed a women's cut to allow for those areas. Also, there is a waist strap/belt that goes all the way around, and allows me to cinch the jacket and help keep the back from riding up and hitting my helmet. NOW, if you take the liner out and open all the vents (intake and outflow) then you will have a lot of extra room.
I included some pictures too, of the reflection. If you value visibility, warmth, and sizing for heavier folks, this is a great jacket. If Euro sizing fits you, stick with those brands because this is not Euro sized.

I got an answer from the manufacturer, that they will make a custom length for you using a custom order form. I did not inquire further, as my scooter battery will not support the draw this clothing requires. So it sounds like there is an option for shorter motorcycle riders.
